The Borgias Re-Watching Party #16: January 25th/February 1st - The Borgias (BBC 1981) s1e03/ The Borgias s2e07
BBC The Borgias (1981) Part 3 Alexander VI sends his son Giovanni (Juan) as head of his mostly Spanish army to subdue his enemies: the Orsinis. Juan proves an ineffective general and is brought home grievously wounded. Cardinal Cesare forbids the doctor's effective treatment as he wants to take Juan's place, but Juan recovers anyway. Lucrezia Borgia endures an unconsummated marriage until her father dissolves it. He exhibits an "excessive" love for her, resulting in a pregnancy. The pope sends the two sons (Cesare and Juan) to battle the family's enemies; Juan's drowned body is brought home, and Cesare finally feels he will be seen as his father's military strategist/leader. 8PM Eastern European Time 7PM Central European 6PM English (?) ..and for Alex - US 1PM Eastern Time. The Borgias - Season 2, Episode 7: The Siege at Forli Juan returns from Spain with gifts: a panther from the New World for Lucrezia, which promptly bites her and something new for his father, a box of cigars. Juan is married but his pregnant wife has stayed behind in Spain. The Pope is pleased with the way his son's life has taken shape. Juan is suffering from syphilis however and seeks treatment from a doctor. The Pope puts Juan in command of the Papal army and sends him to lay siege to Forli Castle with authority to eliminate Catherina Sforza if she refuse to come to Rome. So, Cesare was the one who eventually drove the Orsinis out of Rome. notice how much of the story has to be narrated to compensate for the low production values of the time.
