I’m told that Hedlund auditioned for the part of Finnick in Catching Fire for director Francis Lawrence about 10 days ago. It went very well. No final decisions yet but interest in Armie Hammer seems to have waned since Hammer wasn’t as enthusiastic about it as Lawrence was about him. Am told they’re still seeing people. But their priority right now isn’t so much casting as it is about getting the script in better shape.

First rumors about casting for a role other than Finnick in Catching Fire! According to Variety’s Jeff Sneider, Philip Seymour Hoffman has been offered the role of Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee. From CinemaBlend:

For the Hunger Games newbies, Plutarch Heavensbee has a small but crucial role in Catching Fire, playing the Head Gamemaker for the annual Hunger Games, and eventually returning once our heroine Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) gets further involved in the rebellion against the vicious Capitol. To say too much more would be spoiling it, and it’s also hard to know how big Hoffman’s role would be– after all, Wes Bentley’s character Seneca Crane was barely there in the Hunger Gamesbook, and his part was nicely fleshed out for the movie. If Catching Fire adopts the same form as The Hunger Games, showing what’s going on among the Gamemakers alongside the action in the arena, Hoffman could have a much bigger role in the second film.

Deadline is reporting the same rumor, but Variety said Lionsgate had no comment, so we’ll consider this a rumor for now. In the meantime, share your thoughts – Philip as Plutarch!?

Looks like Lucas Till is Not in the Running for Finnick in ‘Catching Fire'

Last week Zap2it reported that in addition to Armie Hammer and Garrett Hedlund, three other actors were meeting with Lionsgate for the role of Finnick in Catching Fire: Lucas Till, Trevor Donovan and Alan Ritchson. However, we’ve learned that at least one of those names isn’t accurate.

A source has informed us that Lucas Till is “not in contention for the role; he’s not meeting with Lionsgate nor are there any plans for him to do so.”

And one look at Lucas’ IMDb page may explain why – he’s currently starring in and producing Wet and Reckless, then filming Paranoia (with Liam Hemsworth) and then potentially working on the X-Men sequel (with Jennifer Lawrence). Sounds like a full plate!

This also leads us to wonder if the other two names from Zap2it – Trevor Donovan and Alan Ritchson – are actually in the running for Finnick. Guess only time will tell! But sorry to break the news to the Lucas-as-Finnick supporters.

I wouldn't mind Trevor as Finnick, he is handsome enough. But I'm still rooting for Garrett *fingers crossed*

I dunno why but I always pictured Plutarch as a heavy man
