Computer Problem

Hey

Well as indicated in the title I have a little computer problem.
I downloaded a friends episode a while ago and saved it in "my documents", my videos as I normally do.
I burned the file on cd and when I when I wanted to delete the file from my computer it says: File in use, close all the programs and try again.
I'm sure the file isn't in use but still I can't delete it from my computer!
I deleted the file from my kazaa shared folder because I thought that would solve the problem but it didn't.
Also when I click start and then programs my videos and my cursor is on the file my computers just blocks and I can't do anything...

Any help would be much appreciated

Usually, rebooting will take care of this.

If not, and you can never seem to delete the file, then what you may want to try is deleting it using a CLI (command line interface) instead of the Windows GUI (graphic user interface).

How do you do that?
 • Go to Start\Accessories\Command Prompt, and a window should pop up
 • Enter c: where c = the drive letter
 • Enter cd My Documents\Videos where everything after cd = the drive path to that directory
 • Enter dir/w/p, and make sure the file is there
 • Enter del filename.abc, which should get rid of it

WARNING: you must spell the file to be deleted exactly right; spelling errors bounce back, but entering the wrong file will result in deletion without precautionary messages! Also, the files are basically unrecoverable, so make sure you don't want it anymore.

As for the navigation problem, that could be due to low memory; reboot should fix that too.

there is a much simpler way. Start -> Shutdown -> Restart in MS-DOS mode -> OK.

then when u r in DOS go to the directory where the file is.

to do that type:

cd.. <press enter>
cd mydocu~1 <press enter>
then type dir <press enter>

if the filelist goes by too quickly add /p to the command eg.

dir /p <press enter>

this will show u a page by page listing of the files. to scroll down just press enter. to get out of the list just press Ctrl + C if u don't want to go all the way to the end of the file list.

take note of the file or files u want to delete.
then type del <filename>

the <filename> would be something like file.wmv, file.avi. i am guessing that it would probably be an .avi as that is the most used format apart from .wmv (Windows Media).

if it doesn't let u delete it then type

del <filename> /u.

the /u means unconditional which means it has to be deleted no matter what.

hope this hepls u

That's actually riskier, but has the same result if done right.
