The Vampire Diaries Discussion
5x17 Recue Me
In order to keep Stefan (Paul Wesley) from being harmed by Sloan (guest star Caitlin McHugh) and the Travelers, Caroline (Candice Accola) and Enzo (guest star Michael Malarkey) agree to make a trip to Atlanta to find a newly discovered doppleganger [sic]. Caroline is surprised when Enzo opens up to her about his past. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) spend an awkward afternoon at Jeremy’s (Steven R. McQueen) parent-teacher conference, where they hear bad news about his behavior at school. Afterwards, Damon reluctantly tells Elena upsetting news about Jeremy’s personal life. Bonnie (Kat Graham) has an unsettling encounter with Luke (guest star Chris Brochu), and learns more about his family history. Liv (guest star Penelope Mitchell) fills Jeremy in on the rumors about the Travelers’ next move and demonstrates her considerable power. Jeremy makes an unexpected deal with Liv, then makes a decision that is devastating to Elena. Stefan and Caroline share a special moment of friendship. Finally, a terrifying turn of events at the Travelers’ camp leads to the appearance of their mysterious leader, Markos (guest star Raffi Barsoumian). The episode was directed by Leslie Libman.

From the last thread,

Quote:
I just finished the episode and I'm really sickened by the whole Damon/Elena breaking up because they are bad for each other and it's affecting Jeremy Give me a break! If you're going to break a couple up could you make it a legitimate reason and not one that sounds like they are thinking as they go along?
Erin! I see it differently. I think Damon killing Aaron and putting Jeremy in danger again were reasons enough for Elena to not pursue anything with Damon. There was no need for hook up after Damon's confession about Aaron and Elena still doesn't know about Jeremy incident. Elena should have solved her issues first regarding Damon but instead they preferred to have sex. Sex doesn't solve problems. It increases it. Had they solved their problems first and reunited later on, sex would have looked more sweeter but it didn't. It just looked pure lust. No wonder Elena called it a mistake.

Personally I think that Elena has finally realized that how relationship with Damon has effected and compromised her relations with other people, most importanly her brother and it is not healthy. Elena needs to figure out herself first and not give away everything for the love of a man. She loves Damon no doubt but she has other responsibilites and they are her priority. Her justification for Damon needs to stop otherswise she will loose her own morals. That's why Elena siad that we do bad things for each other and it's not right. Elena shouldn't be okay with it. She needs to hold Damon responsible for his actions and ask him to work on it. Until and unless, Damon learns to control himself and work on his temper issues, he will keep taking it out on Jeremy whenever things will go bad with Elena. If he keeps going this way, he will end up murdering Elena loved ones. So yes I support Elena to take a step back to revelauate. Her love for Damon will not diminish but her relationship with Damon will be much healthier later on when the timing is right to pursue it.

Nope. It's all kinds of ridiculous that Jeremy's behaviour is being blamed on the Damon/Elena relationship. Jeremy has never done well at school, no matter who his guardian is and there's been so much going on that has absolutely nothing to do with Damon or Elena that would have affected his life more than they have.

And it really is just clutching at straws for a made up reason to break them up. They've been through worse, no one else seems affected by them (hell, Stefan thinks they're better together) and they were both really happy at the beginning of the season. The whole Augustine thing just turned into nothing but a way to regress Damon and make him 'bad' again so Elena could decide they were wrong for each other and they could break up. If they wanted to use Jeremy, they should have done so a few seasons ago. It doesn't really work now.

I wonder if they will even talk about it. This episode was the perfect opportunity but nobody even mentioned it.

I didn't really like the episode especially the closing scene. I really hoped Elena would already be there for Bonnie, but of course she was alone. While Steroline watched that weird ritual they did in the travelers camp. So I guess this new guy doesn't need a chanting choir of travelers in the background because now most of them are gone ... except for Sloan.

TFTNT!

I enjoyed the episode for the most part.

So proud of Damon, he accepted Elena's decision and let her go without lashing out. That's growth. That being said, DE are to blame for Jeremy's problems? BS! The whole "we're bad for each other, we do bad things for each other" was such a forced way to break up DE.

Also, stop shoving SC down my throat, writers! What does every guy on the show see in Caroline is beyond me.

And what was with 'blah blah Caroline is such a good vampire and doesn't kill people'? Um, yes she does. She killed TWELVE PEOPLE to save Bonnie and now she's too pure to kill one guy for Stefan?

Omg, I know I think they wanted to show us how ~pure and good SC are in comparison to ~toxic DE who do ~bad things for each other.

That's what it looked like to me also. Delena=Bad, Steroline=Good

And the ratings hit a low last night

TV Ratings Thursday: ‘Parenthood’ & ‘Scandal’ Rise, ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Hits Series Low + ‘Surviving Jack’ Makes Low Debut - Ratings | TVbytheNumbers

Got a .7 1.71 M viewers
Down 4/10th from last week

I know some love CD as Headwriter, but this season is a mess and the ratings show it.
I think JP needs to take more of an interest of where the show is heading, give it some cohesiveness, figure out what the audience wants to see and write it. Because what is going on now isn't what the audience wants clearly.
But then again, its already been picked up for next year (possibly the last season) so I can see them not really caring so much.

This one really bothered me. Writers donot expect us to forget it altogether. It was supposed to be this episode but maybe Damon will tell Elena next episode.

I am not gonna deny that I wanted it too. I want Elena to comfort Bonnie just for once. I know Elena and Caroline have a lot on their plate but still it is important for both of them to give Bonnie some time. This is the least they can do for her.

I am hoping that Elena not only focuses on her brother but also her friends specially Bonnie.

OK, i do not know where to start.....this episode broke my heart, i mean DE . The other thing that is killing me is the low ratings, i think this is lowest ever.... i was afraid this would happen after Katherine is gone......i do not know what to think. I mean the season is almost shot......they would not have the opportunity to fix things i presume. I saw this pic of the writers penning the last episode.... i doubt they will change minds.....ans not only that S6 is going to be last, but i really wish they do it better....for the sake of the incredible cast!

Vessy! TVD is entering it's last season so I am not surprised about the ratings. Besides, storylines are also not impressive. Stelena fans don't watch, Originals/Kat fans have left so it was bound to happen. Either way, ratings keep changing every episode so don't worry. The ratings will pick up again.

I disagree. I think Katherine was one of the big problems of this season. The much heralded 100th episode that was advertised relentlessly as an ode to Kat , only got a 1.1 which was same as last week. So IMO these lows had more to do with content.
And yea, the finale is written already. The only thing I can hope for is if KW comes back to Co write with JP. They need an experienced writer helming this show.

I liked the episode. I'm not worried about DE in the long run.

I think that the reason for the low ratings was more likely due to TVD probably being preempted in many major markets for March Madness Basketball.

I agree, I hope that KW can come back to write a few more episodes and especially the series finale. He was the best at writing snarky, witty Damon.
