I think if Ezra really is board shorts, then what could've happened was he was going to go after Alison that night. Instead he found the twin who is probably dressed like Ali because she was preparing to kill her and take her place that night. He buries her after a struggle. This goes both ways for either Alison or the twin. One of them gets saved and goes into hiding, the other one is found by Ezra pretty soon and makes sure he kills her and succeeds. It could've also been Alison's twin that buried her, and then Alison escaped and the twin was discovered by Ezra, who thinks she's Alison and kills her in a rage, probably didn't understand why she didn't look wounded after hitting her with the shovel and made sure to do a good job. That diary that was in the lair that Hannah took, could've been the twin's diary, and he realized he needed to get rid of the other just in case so he made it a goal to find her and set up cameras in every place possible and he soon makes himself A.
