Yeah, the dude was a doozy.

She looked so cute and happy in the movie though, at least her character isn’t in as much pain and misery as Clarke. That was a refreshing change.

I agree with the GIFset, not just for Clarke but female characters in general. It’s double standards, pure and simple.

It literally baffles me when I hear comments from the characters/elsewhere that Clarke is selfish when she does things like this (and it's not just ONE time either) :

She also saved Echo when she didn't have a reason to, by giving her a suit to wear during Praimfaya (risking her OWN life in the process).

I just feel like, even though there are double standards for female characters, there are double standards for male characters, too (and in fact, I’d say some of the lines from that gifset could apply to men, too). And not every viewer who watches perceives things in such unfair, gender-stereotypical ways, so . . . I get the intent of the gifset, but it’s just not what I would personally use as a quote if I were to make one.

ETA: Also, I find Niylah boring and Echo unnecessary. Not because they’re females, because they’re them. So yes, I get the intent of the gifset, but actual viewer perception of ANY character is a lot more nuanced and variable, IMO.

I agree that not all viewers feel that way, April, but I think that the intention of it is to show that women (moreso than men, even though they're sometimes unfairly judged too) are judged more harshly than men. It's always been that way, unfortunately.

I agree with that, Kate. Just look at the butthurt Star Wars and Captain Marvel comments about the female characters.

If there's a blanket statement to say that there's double standards for men AND women, I feel like that dilutes the message that is trying to be conveyed. Just my two cents.

Almost 70% to the goal, yay.
