I agree! Her look in this convention is different but I kind of dig it.

And Bowie totally took over the convention and sat in the moderator's chair etc. Will post more pictures later, when FF isn't being such a pain.

I love how she was talking to herself in the premiere. Makes sense. Especially without Bellamy and his motivational speeches around, she had to try to pump herself up.

Sorry, I've been slacking a bit with posting lately and I apologize if this has been discussed and I missed it.


So I've been listening to the meta station 5x01 podcast and they made some really good points. One of which is this:

Clarke's musings while she wanders around on how good vs bad and that she's come around to "seeing" the other side in her past conflicts (be it Mt Weather or grounders) and her more or less zen attitude in her 6 years of peace and relative happiness are eclipsed in a second when she switches back to fight!Clarke mode.

Which brings to light this interesting point about how circumstance defines to a certain degree who you are as a person? This obviously goes as well for spaceKru and BunkerKru, too. But that this version of Clarke that we've come to know who can be ruthless and make tough choices has been sort of put to rest in her 6 years of peace. But she snaps right back to it in that moment.

I wonder how Clarke feels about this

That's a perfect example of "who you are and who you need to be to survive are different things" Kate.

She's probably going to have to make peace with knowing that the way she got to behave for those 6 years will longer be something she's able to maintain once the others are down/out and their big fight with the prisoner ship begins. The way she is at war is just a part of her now. Murphy's facing that same issue too She can bury it away, learn new behavior, but unless she's remaining in full on peace time, it'll come out again whenever it needs to. The guys going for Madi simply triggered it into play.

I hope that all makes sense to someone else.

It does seem like a sleeping beast was awoken within a heartbeat which yeah, make sme think that it was always there and has no intent on leaving. She seems more ruthless now than before - at least, less willing to sit around reasoning with people or giving them a second chance. She has one job now and that's to protect Madi and herself and it seems like she means serious business.

Yeah, I don't think Clarke changed as much as she just didn't have the need to be so ruthless when she was alone or just her and Madi. I do hope we see some changes in her as the season unfolds though. For example, it'd be nice to never have to hear the "only choice" line ever again

Interesting points, girls. I definitely agree that it is not so much that Clarke changed. It’s that she doesn’t need to be that person anymore since it’s been peace and quiet for years ... but if anything were to harm Madi and her family/friends, you can bet that it’s going to emerge right away again since she has always had that protective AF side of her (like her saving Jasper when she barely even knew him). Madi is her family now so she is going to do anything she has to do, to protect her.
