Based on how Monty, Jasper and Clarke reacted to the food, they either didn't have chocolate/cake or it was really bad. The food on the Ark was probably really basic, maybe even similar to what astronauts eat when in space which are poor substitutes for real food.

I honestly didn't think much about his parents either, probably because I figured that almost all the kids had lost their parents due to floating or other reasons, before the delinquents landed on the Ground.
 He was so happy for a short while before it was all ripped away from him again.  __________________
