I think it's the subtle smile he gives her - he had just compelled her, but his smile doesn't look devilish, accomplished or anything. It just looks genuine

LOVE that gif, his eyes are gorgeous and I just love that scene between them in general. That episode definitely had the best DC scenes in S1.

That episode kind of defined their relationship in season one.

And it always came to me: he was using and abusing her, but at the same time, he could be "very sweet when he wants to be". That quote spoke volumes to me, because he didn't have to treat her sweetly, yet he did at times.
