It's sure not, and I stopped after 8x02, nice to know I haven't missed much. lol
It seems a lot of stuff is just recycled again, I can re-watch Season 1-3 if I want to see recycled stuff.

I don't get why the writers sidelined them so much now. To go from the end of S7 where Damon risked his life to save her because she was his bff to S8 where she's back to just being Elena's bff. As if I'm suppose to believe her death in 8x03 would only matter because of Elena
