I'm sure they'll "restore" everything anyway. I thought that maybe Elena was human because she started drowning and Tyler was only on the other side because he's still a wolf. Then again, Elena is a Doppelgänger so she could go to the other side without being a vampire and she surely would have notice it right away that she's human again.

They didn't know the spell would stop, so tecnically there was no need to rush between two people
