Michael Jordan Appreciation: “By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time." The NBA

BIOGRAPHY:

Michael Jeffrey Jordan (born February 17, 1963) is a retired American professional basketball player and active businessman. His biography on the National Basketball Association (NBA) website states, "By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time."[1] Jordan was one of the most effectively marketed athletes of his generation and was instrumental in popularizing the NBA around the world in the 1980s and 1990s.

After a stand-out career at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he led the Tar Heels to a National Championship in 1982, Jordan joined the NBA's Chicago Bulls in 1984. He quickly emerged as one of the stars of the league, entertaining crowds with his prolific scoring. His leaping ability, illustrated by performing slam dunks from the free throw line at Slam Dunk Contests, earned him the nicknames "Air Jordan" and "His Airness." He also gained a reputation as one of the best defensive players in basketball. In 1991, he won his first NBA championship with the Bulls, and followed that achievement with titles in 1992 and 1993, securing a "three-peat." Though Jordan abruptly retired from basketball at the beginning of the 1993-94 NBA season to pursue a career in baseball, he rejoined the Bulls in 1995 and led them to three additional championships (1996, 1997, and 1998) as well as an NBA-record 72 regular-season wins in the 1995–96 season. Jordan retired for a second time in 1999, but he returned for two more NBA seasons in 2001 as a member of the Washington Wizards.

Jordan's individual accolades and accomplishments include five MVP awards, ten All-NBA First Team designations, nine All-Defensive First Team honors, fourteen NBA All-Star Game appearances and three All-Star MVP awards, ten scoring titles, three steals titles, six NBA Finals MVP awards, and the 1988 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award. He holds the NBA record for highest career regular season scoring average with 30.12 points per game, as well as averaging a record 33.4 points per game in the playoffs. In 1999, he was named the greatest North American athlete of the 20th century by ESPN, and was second to Babe Ruth on the Associated Press's list of athletes of the century. He was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame on April 6, 2009 and will be inducted in September 2009.

Jordan is also noted for his product endorsements. He fueled the success of Nike's Air Jordan sneakers, which were introduced in 1985 and remain popular today. Jordan also starred in the 1996 feature film Space Jam. He is currently a part-owner and Managing Member of Basketball Operations of the Charlotte Bobcats in North Carolina.

are the chicago bulls team any good atbasketball now do they win alot?

Drunk On You 02-21-2016 02:15 PM

I want to say no. But they aren't the worst. But then again I don't keep up with the NBA

Marki 02-21-2016 02:24 PM

ok. well yeah i mean like you'd probably know if they were the ones winning all the time just by the news etc. but i really dont know how big basketball is now i know it was massive in the 90s. in australia we seem to hear alot more news about american football now not basketball but in the 90s it was the other way round.

Drunk On You 02-22-2016 03:35 PM

I feel like it was bigger in the 90s too.

From my bf who is very big into sports I know he feels like the NBA is overrated. I think college basketball is bigger than the NBA.

Marki 02-23-2016 05:10 AM

Wow that's really interesting. Do the player get paid in college sport teams

Drunk On You 02-23-2016 01:11 PM

Nope

Marki 02-24-2016 03:50 AM

Wow like I new college sports were big and a lot of people watch and follow it too but like to get nothing for playing the university must be taking it in

Drunk On You 02-24-2016 01:47 PM

It would be the same thing as high school getting paid to play sports. Because you are playing for a school, I believe there's some kind of rule about getting paid for anything sports related.

Most that play sports in college have scholarships to pay for school. And it's pretty much a stepping stone to the pros. Most goes to college to play college ball and to get into the pros and especially football some don't even finish college and graduate. They end up leaving school early to go to the draft picks.

Marki 02-25-2016 03:36 AM

ahh i see so i guess its really important for them to do well in college sports. so then the public pay to go to these games are they like a similar price or cheaper than first grade sports?

Drunk On You 02-25-2016 06:22 AM

Honestly I'm not sure. I would assume it's cheaper than a pro game. I would say probably a reasonable price. And I believe the money goes back to the team and the school.

Marki 02-28-2016 01:04 PM

ok well i guess that helps me understand it all a bit better thanks for the info April. Melissa joan hart posted a photo of her child and her husband both in matching air jordans (well im assuming thats what they are still called) i thought it was cute from the 90s and supporting someone else from the 90s

Drunk On You 05-12-2016 03:36 PM

A while ago all the hype about Kobe Bryant retiring and I still much prefer Michael Jordan.

Maité 05-13-2016 09:41 PM

I played basketball when I was a kid in the 90s and MJ was all the rage. My sister and I had a CB ball too

Drunk On You 05-14-2016 09:11 PM
