NCIS Season 18 Discussion - A season of unexpected losses

Just caught up with the whole seasons now what a good season wish it was longer.

I like bishop storyline i think they did it so well and planted it well to get her to leave the show but poor Torris . Very similar to Tony/Ziva .. which is so sad .

I love Knight she is so cool am so happy to have her.

Didn't like Sloanes exit it made no sense at all why they left or gave her that storyline at all

S18 was quite intense.

They did a good job with the season, just wish that we would have had more episodes to wrap things up...

The season finale was quite the shock.

I don't know, Sloane's exit made sense to me... :look:

Liked Knight too, but I hope that they will give us more character depth next season...

If we had more episodes would of been better but yeah covid

Idk slones reasoning to leave felt odd to me if it was Elly saying it yes but when she was aging she needs a change from all the darkness of the jon it didn't seem right cause she didn't do that aide to the job she evaluated people yes but than she left there were so many episodes when she wasn't even in it so didn't make sense this force of darkness she spoke about . Would of been better if her exit had something to do with her daughter.

Also all the death firstly Brina ?? Poor Jimmy and it was just thrown in like wow than Emily like wow

It was a confusing season. Going in, most had heard that Sloane would be leaving. Or at least I did, she came back to tie up her storyline. Given the season and how they did the first they did the first part of the season "pre-covid". Sloane's exit lacked a little because it did not seem to make sense. I wish almost they had tied to to her daughter...

Although it made sense Sloane would want to help others. And in this crazy world. She needed a change.

Yes, if we had a full season. It might have made more sense. They made sudden turns in storylines quickly and without a lot of sense to them. Like Emily Fornell.

And then Gibbs. I know there is a lot of mystery. Maybe we will have more sense about Gibbs, and now Bishop.

It was a odd year. Almost rivaled the "Writer's strike" season with some of the shows deeply affected with their storylines.

Maybe one day it will make sense.

My guess is that some of their choices won't make sense... Like how they've decided to kill Emily out of nowhere, just after closing the drugs-arc...

Breena's death oddly enough made more sense to me, or at least it had a point with not completely ignoring covid's existence ...

Breena's death made perfect sense. Emily's however didn't. Especially when the actress involved is still active in the industry & supposedly didn't know. I still feel terrible for Juliette Angelo if it is true, but I also hope she can move on to bigger & better things too. At least when it comes to Breena Michelle Pierce hasn't acted since about 2013... then of course they had just wrapped the storyline for Emily & had her in a good place. They didn't need two shocks like that. This is really the season for loss when you think about it :look: (maybe that should be the title?)

I haven't met Knight or seen Bishop's writeout yet so can't comment about them. But the way they wrote out Sloane seemed ok to me. What was strange was the disjointed way they told things at the start of the season. It makes it harder to keep track on what is going on because we were in the past, then jumped through time quite a bit. Sloane would've been better to go out because of her daughter but that would've been predictable & honestly I think this worked better. She needed the change & wanted to help people, plus she got some closure I think too.

Maybe in the long-term we can look back at it making sense. Because yeah the Emily twist, given they just came off the drug storyline and Emily was apparently in a good place. It did not make a lot of sense, without a corresponding story to tie into it. Like maybe she fell apart during Co-vid which had a lot of impacts.

Breena made sense because they show had been pre-covid, and then they came back and show the tole it was having and gave a twist to Jimmy's story. Gave some great scenes for the actor. We had not seen Breena in a long time, but we had just seen Emily just a few episodes before...

I know it was a weird season and they had to deal with a lot. But I wish some of the choices could have been avoided.

It was really the season of unexpected losses... :look:

It did feel like the season of the writers strike .

Season of loses for sure .

I do agree the time jump was odd , I wish Sloane had better ending.
I wish we saw the lead up and the team be there for Palmer when Breena died .

Emily I guess it is a good way to explain addiction but I also felt bad for Furnell and the actress to cause now is there a point for Furnell anymore?

Also sad note Gibbs giving up his dog ?? Really I always thought he needed a companion a dog is perfect than nope.... so angry :lmao:

Jasper1975 06-05-2021 08:49 AM

While he probably did not know it until it happened. But because he was doing his boat. Maybe he had this plan, of "staging" his death too root out a certain case. Therefore giving up Lucy to Finn made sense. No attachments. Afterall he named the boat, Rule 91.

It is weird. Definitely could have used more time. The sudden changes in storyline felt fractured, and depending on whatever Gibbs is up to, and if he does come back to the show. I could see Fornell as someone who helps Gibbs if he's off on one of his case.

I wish they would come out and explain some of their choices. Even if they are bad explanations, at least we would have something.

florerr 06-05-2021 05:20 PM

I could do with a bit less of Fornell, he brought trouble with himself this season... But I'd have preferred to have Emily & Fornell move to the Bahamas or something instead of Emily suddenly dying of addiction...

Gibbs always has a plan, and I enjoyed the tidbits we got from the side case with the serial killer & the journalist...

Agreed, this season had parts that didn't really make sense, just like how we've never really learnt who killed The Frog in s5 or s6 (?) - the writers strike season

Jasper1975 06-05-2021 05:57 PM

I think they settled on that, that Jenny did. Although it did not make a lot of sense given the circumstances we were given. Gibbs realized it just as he realized she was dying... And then when she died.

But for a lot of shows during that period, especially Bones. The writer strike year. It affected the storyline they had planned. And they went ahead with a big twist without setting it up because of the less episodes.

I like Fornell. I liked his friendship with Gibbs. But the sudden twist in the storyline this season really made no sense given what they had just come off. But it was to show that things were building for Gibbs...

Until he snapped.

But still made little sense.

shinebrighterxx 06-05-2021 06:53 PM

For me S5 made more sense & had more cohesion than this season did . They just didn't tie up all the lose ends from S5 so there's still questions like what was Jenny dying from & who killed The Frog

I would've preferred to see Emily & Tobias end up moving to the Bahamas or something too

florerr 06-06-2021 12:32 PM

In my mind Fornell & Emily moved to the Bahamas, and Emily never actually died :P

We didn't see any body, so I'll just disregard this death... It made no sense, it didn't really fit into the NCIS we know...

... And Gibbs could have snapped without killing Emily off without any issues
