I think Hanna did have feelings for Michael but I am not sure if she was in love with him. She never really opened up to him about anything. She never told him about her past and she never told him that she couldn't read or write. Maybe she was afraid to open up or she was just way too ashamed to tell him.

Well, in the book she does tell him a few things about her past, but she doesn't open up much. She sure is a complicated character, hiding many secrets... Perhaps I'll watch the film again and try to figure out more about Hannah's character...

It's been a while since I have actually read the book. I can't remember what she did and didn't tell him. I thought the film was more about Michael and his experiences and feelings. The movie doesn't tell more about her or their relationship than the book.

I haven't read the book, but I agree, the movie was focused on Michael's journey and self-realization. I kinda liked that Hanna remained mysterious.

I never understood why the academy saw Kate's part as a leading role. In my opinion it was supporting.

Why so? It was a leading part.

I didn't think it was a leading part. The story was about Michael's journey and almost everything was shot from his perspective. And the book was written from his point of view. Hanna was just a huge part of that story but Kate's part seemed supportive.

I was so happy when she Won her Oscar...It was so well deserved, she played the role so well. Even though she's always going to be remember as Rose from Titanic.

That's true. I know some people that don't know her real name and always refer to her as "the red-haired girl from Titanic".

I've just watched this film on TV. What I can say is Kate got Oscar not in vain.
The film is very touching and made me cry. The story is so true-to-life!

Kate's make-up in the end of the film is priceless!
I didn't recognize her from the first time.

Glad you liked the film The only thing I didn't like about it, was that it focused a little too much on Hanna and Michael's love scenes...

Kate's make-up as an elderly woman is astonishing And she also said in an interview that it took her 7 hours to put that on I don't know if I would be that patient... Most probably, I would have fallen asleep.

It's great that you enjoyed this film, Mary. Great performances all around.

The makeup was great. They did a convincing job aging Kate's character.

Thanks for bringing that over, Jas Have you seen "The Hours", by the way? Stephen Dauldry (sorry for spelling that wrong ) is a genious when it comes to actresses "becoming" older for his films. Actually, in his movies we see a lot of makeovers (in the Hours Nicole Kidman has a bigger nose ). I think that picture proves it

I have seen 'The Hours'. Though it's been awhile. I do remember Nicole's nose.

How old was Hanna supposed to be there in that scene?
