Mayim did that as a joke.

Piers tweeted a joke about it.

John tweeted a joke back at Piers.

Piers misunderstood John's tweet and didn't realize it was a joke, and then insulted him which resulted in tons of people slamming John over twitter for not understanding humour.

Me, Dr. David Saltzberg and @kevsussman. Dr. Saltzberg, of the UCLA physics department, is the science advisor in the show. He makes sure all the whiteboards makes sense, he pitches ideas for episodes, and the often explains my jokes to me. His tie is a pattern of atoms, and his tie-clip is imprinted with Avogadro's number. Google it (I did).
