My first network was Stayfriends and later Wer-kennt-wen ("Who knows whom" a very popular social network in Germany, which doesn't exist anymore)

I think I registered at Facebook around 2009 (mainly because of Farmville )

take care of yourself, Nicole. I think lemon tea is good. And if you go to sleep put a wet towel around your neck (together with a scarf), that is what helps me alyway the best

Thanks guys.

I joined Facebook in 2011, once I graduated high school. Only because I wanted to keep in touch with people when we all went off to college. I joined here and FF.net and LJ and Fanpop in 2009, so I used the internet exclusively for fandom for several years before doing the social media for real life stuff.

I'm a senior systems developer and analyst at a major US newspaper. I've worked there for 38 years now, so most of the people I work with weren't even born when I started.

But I know what you mean, Fez. It seems the majority of folks here and in fandoms in general are in their teens and twenties. But I've never found it to be a problem. The first fanboard I was involved in had people ranging from 14 to 70. 35 of us met for a weekend in real life when the show ended and we all had a great time together.

I joined fandom when I was 16, and even now at 23, there are some fandoms I'm one of the oldest in. Which is so weird to me. Like, I still refer to my parents and their friends as "adults" as a way to differentiate between us. When I've been an adult for five years.

And I'll be 40 that month. Not looking forward to that at all.

Seems there's a few of us with big birthdays coming up. Susanne - you definitely look younger!

This is one of the things I find interesting about getting to know people online - it seems easy to chat with people younger and older, in a way that it might not be in real life. One of the barriers that online communication overcomes.

Yeah, not knowing ages unless told, which can be dangerous on the dating and hookup sections of the internet, really helps on the fandom side because we're all sort of on equal ground, no judging (for being younger or older) and we can strike up conversations with people we may not get on those topics with in real life

Of course!

And yes, it is great how easily we're able to converse here regardless of our ages

I personally tend to feel more comfortable talking with people not of my age group anyway

I work for my county's sheriff department doing HR type stuff. Nothing particularly exciting, but the benefits are good, the people are nice, and I have my own office for the first time ever which is awesome.

I don't think I was even aware of facebook until 2006, when I signed up after I got my college email address. (I joined right on the tail end of when you still needed a valid college email to make an account.) And then there was still an overlap where I was still on MySpace a lot too.

Wow! I wish I asked this question ages ago! It's nice to know a bit more about the people behind their forum nickname.

So I am actually one of the youngest here.

Feel better, Nicole!

One of the producers of An Act of God posted a pic from a London theatre, and I got all excited thinking maybe he's there to bring AAOG to the UK!

Oh, I'm sorry I missed all this thread until now. TFTNT btw

So, catching up, I'm 52 and sound engineer.
It's the first time ever I'm into a fandom, it's fun and a little weird sometimes. But I'm really happy to have meet you all, even behind a computer (and IRL for some of us)

I hope you feel better now Nicole

We have been in a posting mood around here

What's everyone doing this weekend? I have managed to wach 12 GG episodes since Sunday and I hope to finish season 2 this weekend, which is another 6 episodes. I am down to 2.69 episodes per day if I want to be done by November 25.
