I typed ''Amy prom night" in the search box on ff.net and thought these three would be plausible

If I was the writer of the fic read in the Writer's Room, I'm pretty sure I would not want to know that. Although I imagine anyone who wrote a post-prom fic is probably going crazy wondering about that.

That's understandable

It's nice though that the fanfic was not praised by the writers of the one of the most popular shows on tv but that it also inspired a hilarious story on the show.

I got the impression that the writers were actually impressed by what they read - but that they were making a point not to say anything outright about the quality of the writing or what they thought of it.

And they didn't say they went to fanfiction.net and browsed to the fics they only said that they became aware of a fic. It sounds like someone recommended it to them.
So it can be from any place in the WWW

They said they just became aware of the fic in general, and then Holland said he just randomly googled and found one he started to read. But still, yeah, it could be anywhere.

Though I was a little surprised they talked so openly about looking up and reading fanfic, because normally writers are clear about how they avoid it - so they won't potentially get in trouble later for writing something on the show that's similar to what someone else wrote in a fic, and be accused of stealing ideas.
