ML.......your father's service and events did continue with the drama to the end. The military services are so inspiring. It is a shame that your son couldn't stay a few days longer since he is already there. How is little Debbie doing, is she still very sick and needs your son's attention?

ML You did a great job on the service for your dad. He would be grateful and proud of you Goodness this snow and cold has had bad timing this year I'm sorry you had that to add to your stress I was thinking the same thing as keepsmiling I wish your son could have stayed longer. I agree Barbara should have sucked it up and gone after all you guys have done to support her poor form. I'm glad the others showed up and that cousin you never knew that came to both services seems like a family member you should get to know. He must be a good guy! So now you can travel when you want to go to Florida right? I hope those plans go well.

Wonderful those service men honored your father at the grave site. I too thank your dad ( part of the greatest generation) for his service too!

Podmom and keepsmiling - wish granted! As it turns out, because of the ice storm in Texas, my son's plane out of Boston (crack of dawn this morning) was cancelled (yay), and the one tomorrow sold out fast, so he can't go home until Friday morning! I hope his wife and dog will be okay without him for a few days. It's so nice to have my whole family together for a brief time. And I think it's a welcome break for my son from all his responsibilities at work and at home. He works very hard (and get the impression she doesn't lift a finger - ahem).

It snowed today but the snow isn't terrible, only supposed to be a few inches and so far my brother's plane is on schedule to leave for L.A., and he should be getting into the taxi for the airport about now.

ML.......that's great news that your son's visit has been extended. I knew about the ice storm in Houston, all of my family was stuck at home Tuesday because of it. We had some of it here, then it moved on to the east.

His wife totally takes him for granted! And is mad at him for not coming home sooner somehow (I think she isn't talking to him/taking his calls - she is so immature/spoiled, don't get me started). I think this was a good break for him.

My husband said last night how good it was to have the kids back home with us for a bit.

Had a nice day with both kids. We drove up to visit my daughter at her condo so my son could see it, had lunch out, and then all came back here.

Son flies out crack of dawn tomorrow. Then I have TWO DAYS to get ready and got to Florida! She's coming by Saturday for one last visit - sigh.

ML.........I know both of you enjoyed your time with your kids. That time is cherished. Now, prayers for your safe travel to FL.

We have a funeral to attend tomorrow, lost a wonderful man that was in our Bible Study group. Sunday we are driving down to Cypress to celebrate Jay's birthday, and to celebrate the fact that he is still with us for this birthday.

Hi PODMOM.......hope all is well with you and yours.

keepsmiling sorry about the loss of your Bible study friend. And glad Jay can celebrate another birthday - each one of those is precious!

My son should be back in Cypress soon - he should be landing in Houston about now (last time I checked online, the plane was over Louisiana)

Travel prayers are appreciated!

Well, looks like we're packed and ready to go in the morning! (Packing is my WORST THING!) Hubby is sort of excited about the adventure, and anxious to get down to the WARM. Looking forward to seeing my friend down there (she lives about 1-1/2 hrs away) and she offered to help with stuff (she works for Goodwill, and we'll probably donate a lot of stuff to Goodwill). So much to do, though, so much to figure out...

Well, we'll figure out Dad's stuff.. and then we have to figure out what we want to do!

Glad the funeral went well ML. Sounds as though you were kept on your toes. I was assuming that the funeral would be down in Florida but obviously it was up there in Boston with you. Hence the need to tidy house. I hope visitors approved and you were able to hide enough stuff from people. We all have that one dump room where we close the door when visitors come.

So glad that you were able to have your family together for a few days longer. That is very special. The days after a big event are often nicest days to be together because you've got no agenda and can just be.

I have a friend and he goes over seas quite often. He says he goes over seas just to remind his partner what life is like without him So he's more grateful when he gets back and starts looking after things again. Your son should visit you more often just to keep Debbie on her toes

Been following the stories of the snow. That means that both ML and Poddy are neck deep in white I imagine. Over here is it a week of 100 degrees. We had a couple of cooler days and now it is another week of 100. I've been hiding out inside. It's not overly hot as a fan is doing the job mostly. Air con is only on some of the time. And it hasn't reached 110 except on the odd day.

ML I join keepsmiling in prayer for your journey as well as your stay and all the dealing with stuff. I am sure it will be very emotional being there with dads things and not him Enjoy your friend and how providential she works with Good Will. Debbie is Debbie without people like her how would we learn patience it is hard when your kids are impacted..... I know I have said this here before but it was such a helpful statement I hope repeating is ok. CS Lewis when discussing difficult ppl one has to bear with said to think of them this way..... "they have a hard car to drive" ie have empathy and understand they are doing the best they can ( now that doesn't mean all ppl are doing their best at all times of course) but when I was dealing with caretaking my mom for all those years that phrase was helpful to me.

keepsmiling s about loosing one of your bible study friends. You have had to deal with enough funerals for now It is a blessing for sure that Jay will be celebrating another birthday given his kind of cancer. It will be a poignant time together. We continue to pray for all those in our lives battling this plague and trust God in His mercy will bless.

Mezz What a treat it is to see you here!!!!! We miss your kind and thoughtful wisdom

First leg of journey complete! In Newark, DE (I think near you Poddy). Mr ML figured out how to get the TV to go and I figured out the wifi. Such a long day of driving and this is only the first day!

mezz we aren't buried in white right now, it was very pleasant today (50s F). We couldn't have had nicer weather today for driving, and it will be warmer as we go Souith.
Yikes that it is in the 100s there! I don't blame you for hiding out indoors.
You're right Poddy - always thought that about my Mother and about Debbie - it must be so difficult to be them!

ML........seems like you are making headway heading south. I know you are happy to have WIFI, and that the weather is pleasant to travel in.

We didn't get to go celebrate Jay's birthday this weekend. He had a heavy chemo treatment on Friday and was still knocked out from that. They asked to postpone until next weekend, and since we already celebrating my oldest son's birthday here, they will just come here and we'll have a double celebration. Wish my youngest son from the Dallas area could join us because his birthday was the 11th, but they are busy and can't come right now.

ML you are 10 minutes from my house! We are both sick now so we couldn't have had you but that is a shame you are so close. I am watching the Eagles win their play off game ( I think theyscore 38-7 in the 4th quarter Next stop the Super Bowl. Glad the trip is going well so far

keepsmiling Sorry about Jay feeling punk I hope he improves for next week and I'm sorry #3 son can't make it. Texas is just so darn big every city is so far from the other.

So when I got home from Liz's Friday podad had almost 103 fever....he is starting to improve today but it is probably the flu....I was doing everything under the sun to not catch it so I could be with Emily next weekend to see the Haven and meet with ppl there to finalize our selections... but I'm getting something today....maybe just a cold from Liz's house or this. It's always something Emily can't be exposed to the flu evidently bad for baby if mom gets the flu...jeesh too bad this is the worst flu year for a long time. She's been sick with a cold for a week but not the flu yet anyway. We will pray and hope she doesn't get it from somebody at work.

PODMOM........I'm so sorry you and PODDAD are both dealing with that terrible flu. I see on TV so many are down with now, guess the flu shots aren't working for everyone. I have forgotten, when is Emily's baby due? She does need to take care.
