I am caught up on the old thread and have thought a lot about how to address the emotions expressed on it regarding the election results. Besides being busy I wanted to take time to listen to and read as much of the the coverage....from all points of view ...which takes time. I also wanted a little time to elapse for some emotions to quiet some.

I was born 63 years ago in America. My father and uncles fought in WW2 my brother, brother in law[ who was an orthopedic surgeon..an intern ...and the father of 1 and 1 on the way....served in Vietnam and spent his days for over a year mostly amputating limbs and saving as many lives as he could of what were just boys of course that experience was traumatizing in many ways , a cousin and young men I went to high school with ( some of whom didn't return) served in Viet Nam ( they didn't want to...there was a draft then....they didn't agree with the war but they were Americans so they served their country.) I have paid lots of taxes into the system. So with that being said I feel I've earned a right to give some of my opinion here since others have. I will not do it again after this accept one more time to clarify some more points on the JOF thread. I consider everyone here on JBs board to be good friends and I want you to always feel free to say what ever you feel. We need good public healthy respectful debate in society. That is how we can challenge our own belief systems and grow. Of course we also here in LALA land try not to talk about politics or religion much because we are here for fun and we get enough of that in real life

First I want to post just a few facts...because as I watched some of what only can be described as hysteria from some quarters including much of the main stream media the first day or two after I feel some might be helpful...please feel free to fact check

54% of women voted for HRC
42% of women voted for Trump
26% of latino women voted for Trump..(.the total Hispanic vote for Trump was 2% higher than 2012)
4% of black women voted for Trump ( the total black vote for Trump was also 2% higher than 2012)

The issues raised by Trump’s conduct toward women did not seem to drive women to the polls in unusual numbers. Overall turnout among women was only 1 percentage point higher than in 2012.

Trump claimed 29 percent of the Hispanic vote on Tuesday compared to Romney's 27 percent in 2012. With blacks, exit polls show Trump claimed 8 percent of the vote to the previous Republican nominee's 6 percent.

I would guess that might be surprising relative to the narrative the liberal media pushed for the whole wearying months of the campaign. I was surprised....we were led to believe the Hispanics were panicked and voting in huge numbers against Trump.

I will in day or so ( I'm off to my daughters after I post this) give my own opinion regarding the election and who I voted for on the JOFs thread....but I will say this.

I value the freedom of speech that generations have fought and died for allowing these present protests and the hateful as well as stupid tweets some in the entertainment world are embarrassing themselves with ...containing absurd, vitriolic, vulgar and shamefully some actually calling for Trump and Pence to be killed. From those that are adults they should be ashamed of themselves. I actually feel sorry for the protestors who are mostly entitled white college kids that I believe (mho) to be misinformed, and manipulated badly by the universities, media and celebrity elite. I feel that they are spoiled rich kids having a temper tantrum. They need to go to the "therapy dog centers and play dough relief rooms etc that some colleges have actually set up. ...if those realities weren't true they would be more funny....If you disagree with an election....work for the next one. When Obama was elected...twice.... there were no riots or protests. Those of us that deeply disagreed with his policies respected our democracy and the sanctity of the office of President of the United States.

Our leaders did a great job on their respective speeches...lets follow their example

I've not seen any tweets asking for Trump and Pence to be killed; but that is ridiculous of course. And...since so many voted third party or not at all, the majority of overall voters didn't want him. But that happens everywhere.

Podmom, if the situation had been reversed don't kid yourself Trump fans wouldn't be going crazy by now. Trump has encouraged riots, violence and hatred from the start of his campaign. He said if he lost he'd refuse to accept it. And that's not the media twisting his words; it's words I've heard from his own mouth. My 8 year old students have heard it.

The protests have been shown here of course...I don't think it's just white males though....definitely not what what I've been watching. Women mainly. And I understand.

But....thank you for those quotes. I very much hope things will calm down and nothing too awful will happen. And that he really does work for everyone.

Good post PodMom. Facebook has gotten really ugly ,especially my one niece who is fanatical and if you don't agree with her, then you are a racist, a sexist, etc. She sees no opinion but her own fiercely held one, and can't see further than the end of her own nose. This is the typical millenial liberal stance - freedom of expression unless it disagrees with their, then you should DIE!

Sad news today, folksinger Leonard Cohen died at 82, and I just heard Robert Vaughn, the Man from UNCLE, just died at 83. I was always an Ilya Kuryakin gal myself, glad he's still perking (and working) away as Ducky on NCIS!

Despite my telling hubby that the election was very close/could go either way, he was convinced Hillary would win by a landslide, even bet $1 with a guy at work - he was shocked (and is giving up his newfound interest in politics - which is good, he was getting on my last nerve about it). I was surprised but less shocked. I know people in both camps, the Trump supporters were quietly happy and trying not to gloat, the Clinton supporters were wailing and moaning and hating everybody and vowing to fight.

As Mike Rowe said, "We've survived 44 previous presidencies, we'll be fine with this one too." I hope he's right. I hope Mr Trump does a good job.

Trump supporters have been rioting and inciting violence and hatred since the start of the campaign. Both extremes are just as bad. The media are never going to show the views of a moderate, intelligent person. Always the ones with extreme views who can't follow logic. Hmm MyrnaLynne if Trump had lost there would have been huge riots too. He encouraged it. Already people have been chanting 'build the wall, and drawing pro nazi symbols. I think it's okay to feel angry, sad, scared. The world is concerned for a reason. How are we supposed to tell boys to respect women when the President boasts about groping them. How are we supposed to teach about tolerance and equality when the President believes in anything but? And I could go on.

And Clinton won (or is on course to end win) the popular vote. So no, the majority didn't vote for him.

I have to say, as a teacher, having to explain it to 8 year olds was very hard. When they are asking why Americans are so crazy, there's an issue.

Also Remembarance Day in the Commonwealth too....

ML You made me laugh about MrML getting on your last nerve I love hearing about you guys I heard about Leonard but not Robert Vaughn I was into him. We were like 11 or 12 I'm thinking...when I look at pix of him back then it makes me laugh cause he was so old looking relative to our age. Not many shows back then I loved that show though. Emily's husband is named Robert ( Robbie) Vaughn . As young as he is he does get pps mentioning that to him sometimes he says.

Podmom there's also videos/pictures of Trump supporters beating/yelling at people to 'go home.' Make America white again grafatti. Someone was shot. Ethnic minority's are being targated. That has been happening since Trump started spreading his hate. That needs to be talked about too.

It's on both sides. The extreme right have been saying disturbing things since the campaign started. Some of the laws Trump has talked about passing would restrict human rights for a lot of people. As a woman, I'd be furious too.

Right now Trump needs to speak and condone all of this violence on both sides. But nope, he just moans that it's unfair. And if the situation had been reversed, Trump fans would be rioting too. He has encouraged it throughout his campaign.

Hmm....The Daily Mail is a ridiculous newspaper with no credibility; my journalism lecturers would kill me for going near it!! It's pure speculative, terrible journalism written for the 'uneducated.' (Sorry not sure how else to put it!)

But....it's done. All we can do now is hope, that for the sake of the world, he does a good job....

Sorry I will shut my mouth now! I really need to learn to filter....and to stop my mouth running away with me!!
