Taylor Hockey Thread #7: Because He's The Best Hockey Player In Hollywood
Welcome to Taylor’s Hockey appreciation thread #7 Hockey has always been the first love of Taylor Kitsch. A Kelowna, BC native, Kitsch played Junior A hockey for the BCHL’s Langley Hornets “ When I was younger, I played junior hockey up in Canada in the BCHL – from 16 on up actually – and then I played Canadian University hockey in Lethbridge when that was finished. My whole life, basically, follows the Canadian stereotype: back yard on the pond skating, spending every single moment on the ice.” He's a big Red Wings fan and his favorite hockey players is Steve Yzerman. Kitsch was set to become a professional hockey player, but a bad knee injury ended his career. What do you love the most about the game of hockey? "It’s all in one. That’s what makes it the sport it is. You’re doing all that at any given moment. The rate you have to think and react is incredible. I do think the size of these guys and the speed of the game is what really makes it the sport it is…every shift you have to be ready for anything. I have to say that it has so much to do with the person I am…growing up with all the ups and downs and the team-building. Or the moments in rookie camp when I was 15 playing with guys up to 20 years old and choosing to fight for the first time or skate away in front of your bench and 2,500 fans in a little barn in the Kootenays….that’s what shapes ya…"

Thanks for the photos/video and quotes, guys! It's so funny -- that early pic of him with the Hornets is the second of two pics I've seen today where the resemblance to Tim Olyphant is uncanny. I've heard people mention it before, but other than a passing resemblance I never really saw it till today!
Hey, if that phantom tweet about someone spotting him in NY (in the Fan Encounters thread) was for real, what are the odds Taylor will show up at the Islanders game Tuesday night? |

I'd like to think that if he's there he would go.

I would hope that if he is in New York he would go, but who knows where he really is.
I'll throwback to Taylor playing street hockey with Strombo and Phil Burke. |

I wasn't able to watch the game, but I Googled him and did a quick search on Twitter, and there was no mention of him.
Thanks for the throwback pic with Strombo. I'd never seen it. His interviews with Taylor are among Taylor's best, in my opinion. I have to be honest: I had to look up Phil Burke. Haha. I watched most of season 1 of "Hell on Wheels" but didn't recognize him. If I'm thinking of the right character, he was really good (and scary!). |

Nope it doesn't look like he was there. A good game too.
I'm not sure if he still has his own show, I know he was recruited by Hockey Night in Canada and does that now too, but seeing as I'm not Canadian and I'm limited to the one Canadian channel I get, CBC. Unless I'm up at my cottage then it's all Canadian TV. I had no idea who Phil Burke was either, I mean I watched Hell on Wheels the first couple seasons until they killed someone off that I just couldn't get over. Like could you torture this poor man any more? But anyway, I did recognize him from there as one of the brothers. |

Yeah the playoffs are about two months long...my birthday is toward the end of May and the Red Wings would almost always be in the Western Conference Championship series by that time.
Usually the playoffs will be done the first or second week of June. They're only about 3 games in to the second round. Two more rounds to go! |

I think I may have jinxed the Capitals with my overjoy of the painful way the Penguins lost in Game 1, they're in serious trouble.
