Friday Night Lights OT Thread #6: Because We Love Checking In On The Former Dillon Residents

The all encompassing Friday Night Lights thread to discuss any and all actors from the show and just the show in general because even though it's been 10-years since it premiered it remains one of the most beloved shows out there. And even we sometimes have to admit the show was about more than just Tim Riggins.

"Inspired by the legendary Buzz Bissinger book Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream, and the 2004 Peter Berg movie based on it, FNL told the story of a high school football coach from Dillon, Texas, whose improbable victories mirrored those of the critically beloved — but disastrously rated — show itself. In an era when sports television was supposedly at its nadir, when elite storytelling was supposedly only the work of prestige outlets like HBO and AMC, Friday Night Lights emerged as the quintessential show about American spirit and uplift at a time when the moral and economic bedrock of our Country seemed most in doubt.

Gone too soon. Appreciated too little. Treasured by those who followed it. That was Friday Night Lights." -Grantland

Catching up on the cast...

Jesse did an interview with Texas Tech, I guess he went there for a period of time. I had no idea. It hasn't been posted yet but I'll keep an eye out for it.

Thanks for the new thread and all the updates!

I'd love to enter the Kyle auction. I was such a big fan even before FNL, and plus it's such a great cause. But adding in the cost of travel and lodging, what are we looking at, like $10,000 maybe? I wish I had it to spare.

The current bid isn't terrible to top, but with 10 days left you have to imagine someone will come in with something 5 grand plus. That's a lot of money...

That makes sense. Seems strange he wouldn't take classes at UT Austin if that's where they filmed. But I didn't remember a period of time when he took time off to go to school, he jumped right into films after FNL finished.

But if you notice they're both looking to the right while Connie and the other woman are looking directly at the sun. Probably just doing it for the picture. Sophia Bush and friends were there with Connie too I noticed. They probably all flocked to her place in Nashville. Though I know she said she's moved back to LA permanently now.

Jesse's new movie 'Hostiles' will be at TIFF.

I definitely will plan better for 2024. I'd like to be able to see it better. It barely dimmed here.

I saw Wind River. I knew it was the directorial debut of the guy who wrote Sicario and Hell or High Water. What I did not know is that Pete is a producer! I spotted his name in the end credits. But then I got mad. Haha. There's a small but pivotal role that went to an actor you'd probably know if you saw him, but he's not a star by any means, and Taylor would've been perfect in the role instead. The actor needed to be handsome and athletic but also have a natural warmth. Sound like anyone we know?

Anyway, I know maybe the director just wanted this other actor, or Taylor's fee was too high, or he was shooting OTB or AA at the time, or Taylor might've not wanted it. But Pete is doing all these great smaller projects (he also produced Hell or High Water) and I just wish he'd get his friend in one. The character is onscreen all of 5 minutes. Taylor would've had time to shoot that even if he were shooting the other two movies. We know he had weeks off sometimes.

And don't get me wrong -- he wouldn't win an Oscar for it or get his face on the billboard. But it's just one of those great movies that if I were an actor who cared about telling good stories, I'd kill to be in. Apparently Elisabeth Olsen turned down parts for a year so she'd be available when they could shoot.

Anyway, I know no one here knows and only the people involved know, but I'm just disappointed I can't see Taylor in something like this. It's a fantastic movie. It instantly became my favorite movie this year so far, and I want Jeremy Renner to win the Oscar and Elisabeth Olsen to be nominated.

I remember checking on Elizabeth Olsen's IMDB to see what she had coming up prior to Waco because I wanted her to be Rachel Koresh, Taylor's wife in Waco. And I did remember reading that Pete was a producer on Wind River. Here's the thing, as producer often times they're not that heavily involved. Like Matthew McConaughy and Woody Harrleson were executive producers on TD, yet were never on set, had very little say in what happened with season 2. Pete directed the first episode of the Leftovers and was forever attached to that show as producer, but past that first episode had very little direct involvement. However, his film company Film44 did. So I wonder how much he's getting these credits just because he might be helping to finance something or Film44 is involved. Which is why I wonder how involved he'll be with Pieces.

Not that I wouldn't want to see Taylor in more movies like this. He really does gravitate to a certain type of movie, though maybe he's just not landing these types of roles. I know he always mentioned that role in Out of the Furnace. That it was a super small role but pivotal and really meaty and he really wanted it but his schedule didn't line up. I think the same thing can be said for the Dolan movie, the role was going to be small...but he lands larger projects and then has to pull out. So who knows, maybe at a time in his career where he will take these small supporting/cameo roles when he doesn't want to work as much or his schedule allows it.

Jesse is in an upcoming episode of Black Mirror.

My first thought was "Is that Anton Yelchin standing behind Jesse?" And two seconds later I remembered and it was like, damn, he's gone. So sad. I think it might be Jimmi Simpson instead.

The problem is, Pete probably at least read the Wind River script. I would think if he's helping finance it, he'd definitely be able to recommend Taylor for the part. Haha. In Hollywood isn't it supposed to be who you know? I dunno. Like I said, we don't know how it works. I'm just bummed, is all.
