She can no doubt afford the latest smartphone gadget to be in touch with friends and family while constantly on the move in her showbiz lifestyle.

But it seems Dakota Fanning still sends messages the old fashioned way.

The 18-year-old was seen purchasing a sheet of stamps in the Big Apple, rather than pinging over a speedy email online.

Dressed down in a purple smock and denim shirt which doubled up as a jacket, the Charlotte's Web star looked cute and casual.

She blended in with the locals as she adopted her incognito style with ungroomed hair and no make-up or Tinseltown airs and graces.

Perhaps it's no surprise that Dakota may want to send air mail, after the young actress vowed never to join social networking site Twitter.

Earlier this month, she told Wonderland magazine: 'I really don't need to let people know where I am and what I'm doing.

'I feel like a lot of people want their privacy but yet they tell people where they are. It's just not for me.

'I don't have a Facebook or Twitter and I won't. There's plenty of impostors out there. There's enough Dakota Fannings on Twitter for all of us.'

The elder sister of fellow rising starlet Elle, 14, has just been announced as one of the jurors for the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival.

Dakota will join a line-up of huge names, including Michael Moore and Kim Cattrall, to present more than $250,000 in cash and prizes at the prestigious ceremony to be hosted by Whoopi Goldberg on April 26.

Directors Michael Moore, Mike Newell and Jim Sheridan and actresses Susan Sarandon, Whoopi Goldberg and Dakota Fanning are among the 39 filmmakers, authors and industry professionals taking part in the six juries that will judge films at the Tribeca Film Festival, which runs April 18-29 in New York City.

Director-producer Irwin Winkler has been named president of the jury. Winners of the awards in six competitive categories will receive $175,000 in cash and prizes at the Goldberg-hosted TFF Awards Night ceremony April 26.

The jury for the best new narrative director in the emerging competition category consists of Goldberg, actors Camilla Belle, Kellan Lutz and Leelee Sobieski; and filmmakers Susannah Grant, Zach Helm and Courtney Hunt. The jurors for the best new documentary director are manager Bethann Hardison, TV host Sal Masekela, actress Olivia Wilde, author Jared Cohen and filmmakers Stuart Blumberg, Rachel Grady and Ricki Stern.
