I did laugh at the Rowan Atkinson comment - not true in general but I could see what they meant based on the photo shown!

As for Josh & Katie, I'm not sure how suited they are - she seems very middle of the road (although very normal and nice), whereas Josh is a little more adventurous.

Does anyone remember who finished things the first time they went out?

No one ever really said who broke up with who, although there were lots of rumours. Ie. He left her for Ali Larter and/or Brittany Daniel and she was devastated. There were other rumours saying she broke up with him.

From the outside, I personally just thought it was young first love, which often inevitably ends. Sometimes badly.

I do think they're very different. But they were then too.

I'm hoping just for a friendship, they cared a lot about each other for a long time, years, in a non couple way. Would be nice to see that again..

I don't know that they were ever "officially" together? There were rumours, but who knows.

If social media had existed back then, we'd know everything.

I watched the E special and some lady said KH wanted to get back together with JJ and her publicist or agent found Chris for her. Someone else said how KH avoided JJ with Britney Daniel

I was at the store and saw William and Kate on the OK magazine. Is it next week's issue?

Yes, that was one of the rumours, Katie was devastated by the breakup and so they hooked her up with Chris. But I think the Van Der Beek thing happened (if it happened) after Josh.

I look at it all as Hollywood spin, so prob some truths and some untruths there. And they would have been keen to whip up the "teen drama" at the time too, with the show still on the air.

I guess we'll never know. I agree they were young and could see how they would be attracted to one another but it probably just petered out. We know there was no acrimony as they were still good friends afterwards - perhaps they realised that's how they were better off.

Plus, I feel like Josh was probably already a bit more grown up (in the ways of the world) than Katie, who seemed quite naïve at that time. I guess a marriage to a A list actor will make you grow up quickly! She seems less shy but also more relaxed these days - remember when she was first with Tom and she was friends with Victoria Beckham and was dressing all high fashion and sleek - now she's just back to jeans and a shirt most of the time. You can take the girl out of The Creek....

I feel Josh needs someone sophisticated - not in an aesthetic sense, more someone who is intellectual and worldly. Someone who wants to have adventures and live a life of culture and learning - away from the limelight.

I agree that Josh would likely fall for the adventurous type, but he also wants a family, so he could very well be looking to settle down from all of that. He is still able to travel around doing his different projects (YOLD) so maybe that will be enough for him now. I know Hubby and I are the outdoors type and camped all the time, but as we get older that desire slowly goes away and you're happier just doing the little things. Josh is 38 now, so maybe that desire for more is slipping away for him as well. Besides he's done a lot in his life, so should be very satisfied with his bucket list

Obviously I have no idea what goes on in Josh's mind, or why the recent breakup...but I've been following him for a long long time. It's been more than 10 years that he's been saying he wants kids/family.

I kind of think that's what he'll be looking for now, but agreed, I think he still needs someone with a bit of sass and spice to keep him interested. I don't know if I would say someone like Diane necessarily, because he's never really had a "type" in dating. I think he just likes strong, smart women. He might even settle down with a non-actor.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him married with a kid (or on the way) in the next two years. Not to Katie. Sorry Katie .

Well Josh has a very intellectual mind and I think he would be attracted to someone who is smart and quick witted, but of course I don't know him personally so I could be way off.

I agree, that we might see him starting a family within the next couple of years and I look forward to that.

I think this whole Katie thing is pure gossip and wishful thinking. However, it is possible that they have gotten together to reconnect as friends, after all she did reach out to him after her breakup (likely with an apology), so maybe he did the same and it just got the rumour mills talking.

As an oldie myself, I agree you do start to just enjoy doing more low key things. Ten years ago I was all about holidaying and doing adventurous activities and now I'm just too lazy! I really just want peace and quiet most of the time.

So yeah, to keep on topic, Josh may be getting to an age where he's ready to settle down. I know we don't know him but from everything he has said I think he will want children and he'll be happy to work infrequently and just enjoy his life.

I feel like he will want someone open minded and intelligent who isn't caught up in the trappings of fame - again I don't know him personally (shame!) but everything about him says that he looks beyond the surface of things and looks for things that challenge him and make his soul happy. Of course, it's likely he will get a pretty girlfriend but I don't think that is all he looks for. It could be me just projecting this on him but somehow I feel it's true that he goes for substance over style.
