Familiar people leading different lives at the exact same time.

THE OTHER SIDE: There's more than one of everything. The alternate universe was introduced to us during the season one finale. We learned that while this universe is similar to ours, it has many differences as well. Some people are alive in that universe that aren't alive in ours, or the other way around - people are dead there that are alive here. They are more technologically advanced than we are. Walter took Peter from the other side when his Peter here died, causing a motion that had effects for a long time.

TFTNT!

The thing that freaks me out most about the alternate skyline is not the towers; it's that gleaming gold Statue of Liberty.

Finally thread #2 :yay: thanks for opening and making some touches to the OP :)

I think AltAstrid feels the same way about ours.

Salmonella poisoning seems to be a bigger problem in the United States 'over there'.

Interesting, since the impression that the show gives is that medical science is much more advanced over there.

In some areas, yes (nanotechnology). However, in other areas, no. Remember, they never did find a cure for smallpox yet.

Wonder what my alt self is doing right now

@l3jandra 02-17-2020 08:22 PM

^ that's a good question, I hope my alt self is sleeping more than 6 hours

Ironhorse25 02-17-2020 08:23 PM

I'm wondering what alternate Mexico is like.

Ropetuned 02-18-2020 04:28 PM

Amen to that!

I hope my alt self is posting a historical piece on how "Fringe" edged out "The X-Files" to become the longest running American sci-fi series.

CULTURE SHOCK

When Peter erased himself from existence with the Wave Sink Device, he apparently took Batman with him, for Mantis exists in his place in the altered alternate universe timeline.
(Interesting note: Batman was never replaced in our altered timeline).

You may or may not have realized that this change had a gigantuous ripple effect on pop culture in the AU.

Here is just a sampling of movies, television series, and comic books that were never made in the alternate universe as a result of Batman's erasure 'over there'. Remember that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Movies:

Batman (1943)
Batman and Robin (1949)
Batman: The Movie (1966)
Batman (1989)
Batman Returns (1992)
Batman Forever (1995)
Batman & Robin (1997)
Superman vs. Batman (2004)
Catwoman (2004)
Batman Begins (2005)
The Dark Knight (2008) - Co-starring Heath Ledger, who may still be alive 'over there'.
Superman vs. Batman 2 (2010)
Mask vs. Joker (2010)
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
The Lego Batman Movie (2017)
Joker (2019)

*Since The Dark Knight Rises was never filmed, the 2012 Aurora, Colorado shootings would have never taken place in the altered alternate universe timeline. Or possibly even in the original alternate universe timeline.

Television:

The two most noteworthy:

The 1960's television series Batman starring Adam West and Burt Ward. Yvonne Craig Played Batgirl (no Batgirl either 'over there').

The FOX television series Gotham (2014 - 2019).
(Unless perhaps Mantis lives there).

Radio:

Batman never had a radio series of his own (perhaps in the alternate universe).

Comics:

None of the comic book series dating back to 1939 or the animated series or any of the toys,

... and we never did find out whatever happened to Superman as a result of Batman's erasure 'over there'.

I’m just curious how viruses would work and if they’d have different affects depending on which universe you resided

Ironhorse25 03-18-2020 06:37 PM

I don't think Coronavirus would exist in the alternate universe.

Ropetuned 03-19-2020 04:01 PM

Why not?

I don't think they'd be much different, at least not on a basic level. After all, humans are basically the same, and aside from sheep being extinct I think most other animals are similar in all the universes. So viruses probably are as well.

Ropetuned 03-19-2020 06:13 PM

They seemed to have a much bigger jump in future tech over there so they might even have antidote or some sort of cure for all viruses

Because the AU is still experiencing bouts with Smallpox, Avian Flu, Typhoid Fever, and according to this article, Bubonic Plague.

Fringe Television - Fan Site for the FOX TV Series Fringe: Fringe Now: Alt Universe Articles - Bubonic Plague

Even if the Coronavirus would exist 'over there', it would pale in comparison to the Bubonic Plague.

And you're right, they would probably already have a vaccine for the Coronavirus if it existed 'over there'.

"I can dance, if you like. They have absolutely fabulous drugs here, Olivia. I feel great. Oh, and look, look, look. Accelerated healing techniques. It -- it's miraculous." Let's hope that includes a coronavirus vaccine.

FoxPhile 04-21-2020 04:14 PM

The greater likelihood is that the coronavirus would not exist at all over there. It's a mutation in this universe. The likelihood that the exact same mutation would occur is probably slim.
