August was mad jealous over finding out that Jacob and Marlena had feelings for each other but really his petulant behaviour just drove Marlena further away towards Jacob.

The irony is he went mental the moment Marlena backed off her feelings for Jacob and decided to just be miserable with him instead of going for it with Jacob.
