I was thinking when Jacob came into August's compartment with the intent of killing him he must have been torn up seeing August asleep holding Marlena...I don't know how Marlena could stand having him touch her. She never really loved August at least not in the true sense of the word. As I said before he had taken her away from a bad situation. He no doubt with his silver tongue painted her a beautiful picture of what life with him was going to be like. It turned out to be a nightmare.

I think it was not only him holding her but the black eye that developed he was ready to take him down he was sick of him fcking with him and seriously tired of him messing with Marlena. and you'rer right she never loved him really he just saved her from her life and painted this beautiful picture of a life and really she was just bound to him until Jacob came around he was the exact opposite of August and it was all those qualities that drew her to him and there's a reason she kept backing out cause she felt obligated to August especially in those times you didn't get divorced willy nilly like people do now so she was trapped in her loveless marriage. She wanted to be with Jacob but wasn't sure she could be

I agree back in those days divorce was a very nasty word. However given the kind of life that they were living there as already some type of stigma placed on "circus folk." She just didn't have the strength to leave August. Where would she go right? It was better than being on the streets but what a miserable existence. Jacob was her shinining knight and guarding angel all wrapped up in one beautiful package. August was nothing but a user. If you were useful he kept you around. Until you exhausted that use than you were history.
