Not everyone lives in America/Canada and gets to live watch. Therefore fans that follow the HIMYM fansite would get spoilt before they got the opportunity to see it for themselves.

I agree with what someone had said above. Nice episode but a little bit of a let down for a finale. Again I just wish Ted would move on. His kids are going to be watching aunt robin like a hawk after those stories.. I'm not sure how I'd feel knowing my father had married my mother even though he was adamant that someone else was the girl for him. After all..he didn't NOT marry her because it was his own choice but because she didn't choose him

What do you mean struggled? The network bought s9 before even s7 ended. TPTB had no chance to say no because they were too late. That is why they quickly responded to the network with season nine being the very last. That way the negotiations couldnt even be considered.

Yes, I know but the network wanted more. Its hard to turn down a heavy carrot. There is so much politics to it, you cant end it to end it.

No, that is very true about the floor plan going to s8 originally and I kinda wish it too but I guess they missed the deadline or got pushed into signing s9.

They hadn't made a decision on season nine until this year - it was announced officially in January. If they bought it back before S7 ended, then that means that TPBT didn't know about it for almost a full year, which seems unlikely to me. Unless I missed something, but I'm following all the HIMYM accounts on Twitter.

They made public announcements in Jan, but it was decided months before that I am sure, unless they just threw together s8 as they went along. But usually announcements are months AFTER the negotiations are finalized.

I think they've been hammering away at the "Ted is stuck on Robin" theme while at the same time showing over, and over, and OVER that she's not a good match for him because he meets the mother at the train station, which he wouldn't have been at if not for the fact he was fleeing the scene of BR's wedding ASAP. Maybe they should have written them meeting in a way that didn't involve him pining over Robin, but . . . yeah. Annoying, but makes sense in the narrative.

I also think very early next season as he and the mother mesh together so well, he'll start flashing back on the actual realities of him+Robin, ie, them being on totally different pages, with different goals, etc, and it'll dawn on him that he wasn't even in love with Real Robin. He was in love with Robin I've Selectively Edited to Exclude What I Don't Like. Then we can get on with Ted+Mother and Mr.&Mrs.Scherbatsky.

Maybe I got a little confused. I thought they didnt know they would for sure do season 9 after the season 8 had already started filming. Didn't the said Season 8 would be the final season. I normally don't follow news so I'm out of the loop sometimes.

Well, Carter Bays tweeted less than a week before they announced season nine that they were still negotiating. So if that's how it's usually done, HIMYM was an exception. He said in some interview around the time of the renewal that the first half of season eight was written in a way that they could either stretch out a ninth or finish the eighth, because when they were writing the first half of the season, they didn't know if they were done or not.

That tweet (which I saw as well) might've been for Jason since he was last to sign for s9?

It may have been referring to Jason, but I saw some things that seemed to imply that all of the cast returning was a condition of there being a season nine, since you can't well have a story in this format without everyone. But I know that he or another writer said that they didn't know for sure if a season nine was going to happen or not, and that was just a week or two before we got confirmation, so I highly doubt that there was a finalized deal when season seven was still going on.
