It was the last thing Max's dad directed before he passed away. That's why Blake/Penn are there because of Max.

I remember I did. I read it two years ago or so, so I don't remember all the details. It's a series of stories about a detectives' agency as the title suggests

I'm going to have a look at it again now that there's a film.
