Missed it. there should be an increase of his books to movies shows as Halloween is approaching. Thought I saw a commercial for "The Shining"- that was enough for me. I've a weak stomach!

I've always wondered what Stephen King dress as for Halloween. Does he have a favorite ghoulish character?

I think I'll finally read The Stand next year. It seems to be a favorite among his fans.

Books Books and more Books — The Gunslinger By Stephen King
Quote:
My most recent read was The Gunslinger by Stephen King, I have to say I have been wanting to read this one for a while now after hearing all of the great reviews about The Dark Tower series. Now before I get into I have to say that I did enjoy this book but there were some problems with the book that I think you should know before you start it.

Just some basic information about the book, it is the first book in The Dark Tower series by Stephen King, this was the edition with the new forward by Stephen King that was very enjoyable and funny like a lot of Stephen King’s forwards. The book is set in a world much like our own but is heavenly science fiction based, the story follows a man called The Gunslinger who is on a quest for the man in black, his mortal enemy.

Now I don’t want to say much more about the book without giving away important details, it was an enjoyable read and I think a very interesting start to The Dark Tower series. I finished this within a couple of days and found that the first installment of the books did not appointment. The only issue I had with this book was the relationship between The Gunslinger and a boy that he meets along the way, the relationship comes about very quickly and there is a lot of talk about there feelings towards each other and it feels forced and unrealistic. This may also be the fact that this book really is quite short and therefore there isn’t time for the relationship to develop. The ending was also quite confusing, very abstract and a bit difficult to understand. But these are the only issues I had with this book, it did make me want to read the rest of the books and I’m excited to carry on with the series. I really would recommend this one, and that isn’t just because I am a die hard Stephen King fan.

Vulture managed to score a chat with producer Dan Lin (The LEGO Movie) wherein he confirms what all Stephen King fans have been hoping, i.e. that a big budget feature film based on the author’s 1986 novel IT will begin production next year with Cary ***unaga (“True Detective”) at the helm.

“The idea is to start official prep in March for a summer shoot,” said Lin. “Cary likes to develop things for a while, and we’ve been with this for about three or four years, so we’re super excited that he stayed with it. You guys are gonna be really excited.”

As previously announced, the 1100-page tome is so epic that the plan is to adapt it into two movies, the first one in which an entity stalks seven children in Derry, Maine in the guise of a clown. The second feature would focus on the children as adults returning to Derry in order to rid the world of the creature once and for all, but Lin surprisingly states that ***unaga is only signed on to direct the first part, and may only co-write the second. No stranger to lengthy storytelling (“True Detective” plays out like one eight-hour-long movie), one would think that for the sake of consistency New Line Cinema would sign ***unaga to both films, but perhaps other projects have grabbed the filmmaker’s attention since becoming a hot commodity.

“The book is so epic that we couldn’t tell it all in one movie and service the characters with enough depth,” explained Lin. There’s also no mention on if the late-1950s and mid-1980s time periods will remain intact or be shifted to a more modern approach with the kids growing up in the ’80s and returning to present-day Maine. We do know that King has given the project his seal of approval.

“The most important thing is that Stephen King gave us his blessing,” said Lin. “We didn’t want to make this unless he felt it was the right way to go, and when we sent him the script, the response that Cary got back was, ‘Go with God, please! This is the version the studio should make.’ So that was really gratifying.”

***unaga wrote the screenplay for Stephen King’s IT with Chase Palmer and David Kajganich, with Lin, David Katzenberg, Doug Davison and Seth Grahame-Smith serving as producers. The book was previously adapted by Tommy Lee Wallace as a two-part, three-hour event miniseries on ABC in 1990 starring Tim Curry as Pennywise the clown.

I read Full Dark, No Stars recently. The first two stories really played with my emotions. Especially the second one about the author.

I'm vowing to take a Stephen King break because I've been having weird dreams (though watching Criminal Minds and reading Stephen King before bed on the same nights might be attributing to that). I went to the library yesterday, a library I've never been to before, and I ended up in the Stephen King section right away. I was tempted, but I didn't. I got six other wonderful books.

I would strongly recommend 11/22/63. It's the first King book I've read, and I'm told it's different than any book he's ever written. Though the parallels between 11/22/63 and The Dead Zone are pretty visible.
