The Sisters Brontë Appreciation Thread
This thread was made to appreciate and discuss the works of the Brontë sisters:
Charlotte Brontë Charlotte is the author of Jane Eyre, The Professor, Shirley, and Emma. Emily Brontë Emily is the author of Wuthering Heights. Anne Brontë Anne is the author of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and Agnes Grey. They began writing under the pen names of Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell, and first published a volume of twenty-one poems in 1846. The three sisters had different styles, beliefs, and tastes yet all managed publication. Charlotte is believed to be the only sister to become a successful author in her own lifetime. I think they are pretty awesome and I collect their works. Is anybody else fond of these women? __________________

I've read Wuthering Heights because it was required in our school. It was actually pretty good and I like it a lot. I love the reincarnation theme (that's how I interpreted it though )

I love Jane Eyre...we're about to study it in my Women in Lit course. Wuthering Heights I also enjoyed, although it's quite the soap opera.

I think that Jane Eyre might just be my favorite book. I have yet to read Wuthering Heights but it's only got one and a half books until I get to it What did you like about Jane Eyre? ~Chrissy~ __________________

I'm not a big fan of the Brontes - I'm more of a Jane Austen girl (love social satire, not so big on the gothic theme) but I did enjoy Jane Eyre a lot. Wuthering Heights is really not my cup of tea though - I got so frustrated by the plot by the end of the book.

I've only read Wuthering Heights but I absolutely loved it! I ended up reading it again right after I finished it.

Charolette is my favorite. Jane Eyre is a great novel of the dark sides that everyone has in their character. The skelletons in the closet thing. I have never read anything by Anne. But have always wanted to look into the life of the lesser known sister.
Emilly's book is full of representations of societies stereo types. And how those stereo types destroy people. They had such a intresting take on society and how each of us represent those beliefs. They were very intrested in the contemporary moral issues of the 19th century English world. |

I just went to the National Portrait Gallery in London and they have a picture of all three sisters. It was fun because I went with my professor who teaches literature and she was able to give us a good history of the three of them and all that. I've never read anything by the Bronte sisters, but I've always found that literary era fascinating and I'm sure I'll read something someday.

That would have been amazing. They were able to do so much for female writers. Along with Jane Austen of course.

I really enjoyed Jane Eyre, but Shirley did nothing for me. I'm thinking of reading Agnes Grey, as soon as i finish Sons and Lovers, by D.H.Lawerence.

Wait a minute, wasn't Emma written by Jane Austen and not Charlotte Bronte. Or is there a second work entitled Emma written by her?

I love Wuthering Heights, it's tied with Emma (which is by Jane Austen ) as my favourite book. I was lucky enough to study it in college so we got to look at all the themes and how it would have been seen in the context of the time. In the exam the essay we had to write was about the relationship between Heathcliff and Cathy which was amazing to think about and quote.
