Mary was playing the piano with a young man playing a flute behind her and
Kitty was holding hands with an officer.
I don't mind this ending for them. Lets hope Kitty's officer has a better personality than Wickham does.

And Mary deserved love.

When they found out that Bingley had arrived, the Bennett family and Lady Lucas had a carriage race back to the village trying to be the first to call on him.
Pass them! Pass them!
I don't remember that in the book.

That sounds very unlady-like

:rotfl: That is not in the book.

but happy for Mary and her flute man.

 Flute man

In the Wickham book I read, Mary had a happy marriage too.

IndyFan 06-06-2022 05:28 PM

They both had on glasses, and Mary was singing and playing the piano; after he listened for a while, he pulled out a flute and joined in.

The carriage race was filmed with fast back-scenery flashing by.
It was rather unusual but made for excitement in the 40's I'm sure.

I bet a book with a Mary-like main character could actually be very cute. Two awkward souls finding each other and falling in love. Austen might not agree, idk. She seemed to make fun of Mary.

Hollywood maybe demanding an action scene?

IndyFan 06-07-2022 07:06 AM

It may have been exciting for 1940 movie goers, but by today standards it was just comical.

LilMouse 06-07-2022 08:38 AM

Did it have an obviously fake background?

IndyFan 06-07-2022 10:18 AM

Yes. It was very early filming technique.

LilMouse 06-07-2022 07:20 PM

Just imagine how much further filming techniques will develop in another 80 years.

I'm going to re-watch the 1995 Colin Firth version of P & P next.

LilMouse 06-08-2022 06:48 PM

Does Netflix finally have it available? For the longest time it said "very long wait."

IndyFan 06-09-2022 06:45 AM

Yes, it is available. I am supposed to get Part 1 today.
