Bookmarks

For novels, I use bookmarks with those dangly things:

For textbooks, I use free promotional bookmarks:

Or...I just use the due date slip from the library.

I've got a bookmark with Marilyn Monroe on it. Yeah, it's special.

I use all kinds of bookmarks -- I got this cool beaded one for my b'day from my mom; she got it from Lunenburg, Canada.

My favorite bookmark is this Celtic metal one that my mom and dad bought me at a celtic store in Virginia. It has all these designs in it. I use it whenever I'm reading a book at home but if I'm taking that book somewhere I just pick up whatever bookmark I have lying around. Normally they are free ones I've picked up from the library or just random slips of junk paper I have strewn about.

Sometimes I use just scratch pieces of paper, but recently I've been using playing cards. Right now I'm using the joker.

Hey, that's actually a good idea for the 50 books challenge. A different card for each book. Including the 2 jokers, that'd be 54 cards. You can set your New Year's resolution to read 54 books that year.

I won't be able to do that. I am too slow.

Hey, I never thought about that. I might try to do it for next year. Bring a pack of cards with me. That's a great idea. Thanks quarterley.

Or.....if you don't count the jokers, there are 52 weeks in the year and there are 52 cards. Therefore, aim for one book per week. The jokers could be bonus books. You could challenge someone to a competition. Example:

Challenger: "I am on the Queen of Hearts already. Where are you now?"

You: "Ha! I'm on Queen of Spades! Muahahaha."

Challenger: "Damnit. I'll catch up."

You: "We'll see. You just started this book while I'm almost done with mine."

Near the end of the year, while snowbound at home for the holidays, great time to try to finish off the jokers too.

But of course, more important to enjoy reading the books you chose than reading just to win.

I still have to figure out how many books I've read this year but I'm sure I'm almost done with my second deck of cards

I'll use any bookmark I can get my hands on. I have a whole stack of them that I keep on my bookshelf. My new thing is using index cards and then writing down words I don't know so I can look them up later...but that hasn't been working very well.

ETA: I've done the playing card thing too. Except I only use jokers because I'm afraid of losing the others.

I only have one bookmark that I use. It has red and pink roses on it and has a red tassle. I used to have other bookmarkers, but I have no clue where they all went. I had one with 3D skeletons on it and one that I got from the Sacramento Zoo. I like ones with the tassles though. Makes it easier to find my place.
