Ashton/Kelso #17: Because He Glued Himself the Formans' Refrigerator At Least Once
Welcome to the Ashton Kutcher/Michael Kelso Appreciation Thread Christopher Ashton Kutcher was born on February 7th, 1978 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His twin brother, Michael, followed about five minutes later. Ashton also has an older sister, Tausha. His parents, Larry and Diane, divorced when Ashton was thirteen years old. It was around this same time that his brother had to undergo heart transplant surgery, which went smoothly. Still, the medical emergency impacted Ashton’s life, and he later enrolled in the University of Iowa, where he studied biochemical engineering in hopes of finding some way to help people with cardiomyopathy, the disorder his brother suffered from.Facts You Need To Know About Ashton Birth Name: Christopher Ashton Kutcher Birthdate: February 7, 1978 Birthplace: Cedar Rapids, Iowa Wife: Mila Kunis Children: Wyatt, born 2014; Dimitri Portwood, born 2016 Father: Larry Kutcher, born 1949; divorced from Kutcher's mother 1991 Mother: Diane Portwood, born 1952; remarried 1996 Stepfather: Mark Portwood Sister: Tausha Kutcher; born 1975 Brother: Michael Kutcher; fraternal twin; had emergency heart transplant 1991 Education: Attended University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa; majored in biochemical engineering Claim to Fame: Starring as lovable dimwit Michael Kelso on Fox's That '70s Show Ashton's Bio When Ashton was fifteen, his mother moved her family, along with her soon to be second-husband, to Homestead, Iowa - a relatively small farming community. While in high school, Ashton excelled at sports, but also developed a keen interest in theatre - making his debut in a 7th grade production of "The Crying Princess and the Golden Goose." However, for the time being acting was only a hobby, and he was focused enough on his studies to gain entry into the University of Iowa’s biochemical engineering program. It was while studying at that institution that an agent discovered him in 1997. He was spotted at a restaurant and the agent suggested he enter a modeling contest called Fresh Faces of Iowa. Ashton ended up winning the competition, and earned himself a trip to New York to compete in an International Model and Talent Agency competition. He was quickly signed to an exclusive agency, and ended up traveling the world doing photo shoots and runway shows. Ashton landed some very good gigs, including Versace, and Calvin Klein. In 1998, he decided to spread his wings some more and went on the audition circuit. One of the first shows he tried out for was That 70's Show , and he was lucky enough to get a very big early break. Not one to rest on his laurels, Ashton took steps to make the jump to the big screen. He quickly landed roles in the teen romantic comedy, Down to You , the Ben Affleck action flick Reindeer Games and the modern western Texas Rangers , starring James Van Der Beek. Ashton now has many television and movie roles on his resume. He has proven his talent not only in front of the camera, but behind the scenes as well. His vibrant personality and wit will take him far and keep him entertaining us for many years to come. In September of 2005, Ashton married his girlfriend of 3 years, Demi Moore. He refers to his marriage as not only being to Demi, but also to her children. The divorce was finalized on November 27, 2013. Ashton began dating his former That '70s Show co-star Mila Kunis during the first half of 2012. After they became engaged in February 2014, she gave birth to their daughter Wyatt in 2014. They got married in July 2015. She gave birth to a son named Dimitri Portwood in November 2016. Not even sometimes. Most, if not all, of it. Worst part is that Kelso essentially got a free pass from the writers and thus, the characters. So he had no motivation (internal, external) to stop doing those behaviors. __________________

Kelso had moments of redemption, but they never stuck. The writers ultimately preferred status quo with him.

With a proper development, he could've been a very great character

Kelso also gives Eric a little support at the end of season 4 and wants Eric to protect Donna from Casey. In season 1, Kelso with Hyde doesn't hesitate to avenge Eric at the bar in "Grandma's Dead" (1x23). Kelso gives Jackie support inconsistently, but he does give it here and there. I'm not sure Kelso has ever shown Hyde true friendship except for their pact not to pursue Jackie anymore, in part to preserve their friendship. But after Kelso fell off the water tower (while he was goading Hyde about sleeping with the nurse, etc.), Hyde brought Kelso to the hospital and looked after him. Hyde did feel bad about hurting Kelso by dating Jackie. There are more examples, I'm sure. Maybe I'll think of them later. __________________

Kelso showing friendship toward Hyde ... nope. They were partners in crime, especially before Kelso dated Jackie, but I don't think their connection went deeper than being friends since first grade and having experiences together. Which is fine. Friendship can take that form. But because Hyde and Kelso didn't speak to each other about deeper topics, and Hyde definitely didn't trust Kelso with much -- except Kelso knew about Edna having sex with a lot of different partners (which was probably a town-wide piece of info, not kept to Eric's basement), and Kelso used that fact to burn Hyde in a truly hurtful way -- yeah. Kelso and Hyde's "friendship" was one of antagonism. And yet because Hyde is who he is, he won't let the guy drown even after Kelso shoves Hyde into the water where Hyde might down himself. __________________

Kelso, on the other hand, would have no idea what I'm saying. __________________

He would be so puzzled probably would replace some words he doesn't know to the ones that sound familiar, too
