Born in Elizabethtown, KY, in the late '60s (and only two years old at the time of her parents' divorce), Rutherford spent years moving from town to town across the country, under the guardianship of her fashion-model mother, Ann Edwards, until she reached her teenage years. At that point, Rutherford, Edwards, and the family's oldest child, Anthony, settled in Newport Beach, CA. Rutherford made a beeline for New York City after graduating from high school in the late '80s, where she planned to enroll in a formal drama program; instead, she signed to do several commercials and appeared on the daytime soapers Loving and Generations. Returning to the West Coast, Rutherford subsequently trained at the Beverly Hills Playhouse, where a drama coach reportedly advised her to "work on [her] sexuality" -- a suggestion that helped her immensely.

In addition to her work on Generations and Melrose Place, Rutherford also starred in the early 1990s Homefront as Judy Owen, in 1995's The Great Defender as Frankie Collet, in 1996's Kindred: The Embraced as Caitlin Byrne, in 2003's Threat Matrix as Special Agent Frankie Ellroy Kilmer, and had a recurring role in The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. as Dixie Cousins. She also had a small role on Scream 3 in 2000. Most recently, Rutherford starred as Samantha "Sonny" Liston, on the cancelled TV series E-Ring. Rutherford currently stars as Lily van der Woodsen in The CW hit teen drama Gossip Girl.

A former ballerina and rock groupie, Lily is the mother of Serena. That makes her mom to the most popular girl in Constance Billiard School.

Hmm..... I think both of those scenes were wonderful. I mean, in season 1 we saw how FORBIDdEN their love is. But also they knew they love each other, so... Season two was FILLED with their love. THAT was MAGICAL. Finally smiles, laughs, love, hugs, kisses, touches... Amazing.
Plus, shirtless Matthew is always GOOD! :-) LOL

Speaking of those scenes... Have You thought what would have happened if Rufus' mobile didn't call = didn't wake them up?? :-)

well i am sure that rufus would be torn.. he would try to let her go. but to the another side he would thinking,, that this night and this morning is only for both. and bart is there not in this perfect dream.. so yeah rufus would try to prevent that lily would go to bart. he would prevent it with all methods if he could.. and he knows which methods are the best for this.

rika, (naama) wrote before many times a story to this.. lily wanted marry bart and rufus kidnapped her there before the wedding

yeah really he kidnapped her lol. and gave her a choice.. one week with rufus and fulll love and everything. and after this she should choose. if she would prever to get back to bart, rufus would drive her back and take the fault on himself and everything. if she decides to left bart forever and living with rufus.. yeah lol.
