I think if they had given him a chance to be a part of the group in S1, I think he wouldn't have gone to Oklahoma and gotten interested in guns..and ended up shooting himself. __________________

I do think it was mutual and that they had a point to write him out after S1 ended. He went from being a regular to a guest star. Even though I think they really downgraded the character from the very beginning, I think the farewell episode to Scott was a good lesson teaching people "you don't know how much you love someone until they're gone."
