That's what I always think. Dylan could have cared less about Iris's opinions on his girlfriends or his life. Dylan wanted to have a father in his life, and he wanted to please Jack. It was all apart of longing for a normal father son relationship. Since Jack liked Kelly Dylan was happy.

Jack wanted to see his son happy, he knew he had been a terrible father and if he couldn't make Dylan happy when he was youinger, he definitly wanted someone to make him happy when he got older.
