Ok, here's their last scene together. And yeah, I am sure of what I was always saying - Brandon was definitely more closed and less willing to show his emotions than Dylan. Not just to him, but to anybody. People tend to say it made sense boys did not hug because Dylan would not be able to stand touch after Toni's death and there were so many problems between him and Brandon, but it was Brandon here who made a decision not to hug him, I'd say. Dylan looked at him all puppy eyed and vulnerable and lost. Brandon shook his hand. Hey, I don't say it was not apt or something. Just, it was not Dylan who avoided the hug. Brandon was somehow more reserved, probably respecting his pain and not being sure what to do etc.

I think you nailed it in the last part -
We have to remember that Toni had just died  and Brandon was aware more than anyone of Dylan's suffering over her loss.So yeah, I think a huge part of it was respecting his personal space and Dylan's need to be by himself for a while. Plus, Brandon wasn't big on showing his emotions after the early years. I'm not sure if that was purely his character growing up and getting more jaded, or an instinctual thing by Jason Priestley. __________________

^ That episode really felt like a movie to me. Dylan's whole arc of trying to escape his demons (his alcoholism) and Brandon determined to support him and then that whole balance of Dylan supporting Brandon to return the favour, it just plays out so well and really strengthens their bond.

Yep, I can't argue with that.
 The Brandon/Dylan friendship was a crucial element of what made their characters fleshed out in the early years beyond their romantic hook-ups.You see the true evolution of it when Brandon is concerned for Dylan pursuing Marchette in season 6. __________________
