Because I feel that Steve was extremely lost as a character until he fell for Clare. They had him be the screw-up of the group in those first 4/5 years and Andrea could've been his anchor / centerpoint had they done a romance there.

I do not think he was lost as a character before Clare. He had his screw ups, but they all did. He did some maturing with the help of his friends, which I honestly think is better than with the help of a romantic partner. And in terms of romantic partners, Celeste did some grounding for him too (or he did with her). He screwed up with her in S4, but when they reconciled, she left him for other reasons (that's what he said in S5). He did not screw up again.

Andrea could have been his anchor indeed. But I think he could have also done a lot of things for her. I said it in S2 thread, so I will just copy/paste it here. I think he would have been good for her too. To make her more relaxed, enjoy the things she considered trivial, have more fun. I am honestly not sure if Brandon could have done that for her. But Steve could have. I mean, she with his help.

I think Steve was one of those characters that the writers wanted to be similar to FULL HOUSE'S Joey. You know, the one who's there for the sideline comic relief more than anything else. So when it came to relationships, they didn't really want to tie him down through fear of him becoming boring to the audience.

Andrea was so unlike him on the surface and that's why I think it was wasted potential. Those types of personalities (the ones who you least expect to work together) tend to work very well together. Andrea could have mellowed out with Steve, too. It could have been a 2-way thing of her learning not to be so uptight about everything.

They had a moment like that together in 4x22 when she caught him in bed with the dorm leader. Andrea realized that the girl who slept with him was pretty much a hypocrite, and she lightened up when she left the room and started giggling.

Why was she a hypocrite? I do recall the plotline, but not much about the girl herself. She was against Steve initially? Or using the female dorm rooms for random male friends to bring the girls in?

I think she was promoting these rules for Andrea to uphold about people living in the dorms not using the rooms to mess around (aka have sex in) so ultimately she was a major hypocrite

Or she just fell for Steve's charm Did she berate Andrea for sleeping with Dan there or for letting her male friends who did not have the right on dorm's rooms (because they were rich privileged kids like Steve) do that?

Honestly, why did Steve insist on using her room for sex? It's not like he had problems bringing girls to his luxurious house before. We saw that with Kelly (ok, heard about it, although he was more going to her house than vice versa), S2 golddigger whose name I always forget and the S3 chick who worked on his mother's reality show or something.

Good question. Maybe so more people would be aware of it? We all know how big his ego was, he for sure would want everyone to know he was still able to 'pull' in College
