Leonardo DiCaprio is someone whose career path I would love to emulate.
The problem is there's not enough scripts about giant boats sinking that are immersed in a love story.
I can't find that script. I'm thinking of writing Titanic 2."

Hearing DiCaprio was going to be honored as one of GQ’s Men of the Year, Efron showed up at the party.
“He was the only reason I went,” he admits. “I thought maybe I’d get to shake his hand.
No one had seen Leo, and I was walking out and he walked right by.
I was all, ‘Oh, hey!’ And he turned around and right there I had the ‘in,’
and I was like, ‘I just want to shake your hand, dude, I’m a big fan….
I’d love to sit down and talk with you sometime.’ And he goes, ‘Right on.’
A few nights later, I was at a Lakers game and I texted him, and he said he was coming.
And this guy in a ball cap and coat with the collar up sits next to me.

"Leo DiCaprio told me, 'Don't do drugs."
He just laid it out there. I've spent some time with him, and we were talking one day
and it was kind of his way-out-the-door, last-minute advice.
He said, 'Oh, by the way, if you really want to mess this all up, try heroin.'
I said, 'Thanks', and he said, 'No, seriously, that's pretty much the only way you're going to screw this up,
and you shouldn't go down that road - it will mess you up without fail. Do not do drugs.'
That was enough for me; that's all I needed to hear.

A few months ago Efron was spotted sitting alongside Leonardo DiCaprio at a Los Angeles Lakers game.
"It was a complete fluke we sat next to each other, but it turned out to be the best thing that happened to me," he says.
"Leo, for me, was the first time I ever recognised fame.
I was in fifth grade when he was literally on every magazine cover for Titanic and all the girls had these Tigerbeat magazines
and I'd say, 'Dude, what's so great about that kid?' I was jealous.
I mean, you couldn't help but hate the guy. And now, to some degree,
I've made it and I'm going through the same thing.

"But it was hard to talk to Leo that night because you're at a game
and there's a million photographers and you're just trying to enjoy the game.
He said a couple of small things but he suggested we talk outside of the game which I plan to take him up on.
But it was a pretty weird encounter to meet this person whom I'd grown up hating,
to now just completely loving his body of work.
I mean, its pretty miraculous for him to have gone from that position to doing all the incredibly diverse films he does today.
That's the kind of career I would like for myself."

"He had a little bit of advice, but it wasn't grand,
he didn't sit me down for a big two-hour talk about how to live my life
or how to work," Efron says."But I did get a vibe of the philosophy that he has in this industry,
the way that he likes to work. He very much has that restless energy,
he constantly needs a challenge. He works with good directors too.
It's all evident in his work."Hearing a couple of things from Leo was nice,
in that it means a little bit more than just coming from anyone else.
"If anything, it just solidified the fact I've got a long road before
I'll be anywhere near where he's at."

We’re talking about Leonardo DiCaprio. They sat next to each other at a Lakers game not long ago. Floor seats.
DiCaprio talked with his hand over his mouth, like a wiseguy trying to foil FBI lip-readers;
Efron took his lead, covered his own mouth.
They set up a lunch. He doesn’t want to get specific about how the lunch went,
but when we ask if he got tips from DiCaprio about flipping his teen-idol stock, Efron says no, not really.

“I thought I was gonna ask him questions,” Efron says.
“He ended up asking me questions, and in that, he told me a lot.
He said, ‘There’s one way that you can really **** this all up. Just do heroin.
If you steer clear of that—the other obstacles you’ll be able to navigate.’
And that makes sense, dude.”

"There are a lot of guys who started at a young age in teen stuff… not exactly like HSM," he says,
"but guys like Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio." These are the actors Efron admires.

'I would love to just sit down and talk with Leonardo DiCaprio and "Johnny Depp and pick their brains about their early careers,'' Efron says, citing two recent actors who have made the leap from poster boys to Oscar contenders.
''They do it because they love it, not because they enjoy being famous.
You have to have good foresight and be really careful.
If you don't adapt and learn at a very young age, you can really mess up.''

I never had celebrity crushes but I do, I do remember teen magazines. I was like oh what is this phenomenon, teen magazines. And at that time it was just, Titanic has just come out.Leonardo DiCaprio. It was weird! As much as you liked the guy and you liked the movie, being a young guy with these girls fawning all over him, you kind of just inanely hated him.

or now Twilight's Robert Pattinson being shot out of Hollywood's cannon?

DICAPRIO: That's the interesting thing about being an actor. You are also a public figure. Early on I made it my policy that a certain amount of publicity is good — you promote your job, you do your movie, you retain your private life, you don't divulge everything about yourself. And when I see younger actors getting a tremendous amount of publicity, I say to myself, Well, they've been given an unbelievable opportunity, and I hope they know within themselves that all that really matters at the end of the day is the work. All this noise and attention will absolutely deteriorate and there will be a new, fresh piece of meat for the media to focus on within less than a year's time. So what they should do at this moment is work their asses off to prove to the public and prove to themselves that they can absolutely have a long-term career.

I saw the simmering ardor of the teenage masses turn into unbridled hysteria after Titanic was released. But this was even more intense. The difference, I realized, was that Zac is not only an actor but also a musician, a bona fide song-and-dance man. We ladies are defenseless against such a combination.
