My sister, who works in the fashion industry, says vegan leather is often made by fossils fuels, so it's not all that friendly to the environment.

She was also saying, cows aren't killed for the leather. They are killed for the meat and then the hide is turned into leather. People aren't going to stop eating meat, so what will you do with the hide then?

That's exactly what I think about leather and other "by products" of eating meat. Why not use all of the animal if it is killed anyway?
