Two weeks into their new gig, the casting directors were frantically searching for a new Sookie, they didn´t even have time to consider a new Dean yet (Sam Wetherington played him in the first version of the pilot). In the same week they would find both.
Manager Dan Spilo rang up Rudofsky. He said, "Listen I know you´re not there yet, but I have this kid in town from Texas and he´s amazing. I promise you." Rudolfsy recalls. We kept saying no to him, and he said, "He is leaving in the next couple of days, please just see him." We had not even had one producer session with Amy, we had just been pre reading actors and getting our ideas together of who to bring to her.

"We´re are like OK fine, we´re not seeing Deans but we´ll read him." Casey says. A little while later, Jared Padalecki arrived at the little Gilmore Girls trailer park on the Warner backlot. He walked in the room and I though eh, he´s cute and then he opened his mouth and it was done.
Amy often lamented the lack of good looking young male actors who can actually form a sentence. this was something Casey and Rudofsky had run into throughout their careers, especially when casting for network television. It comes down to three little words: Executives want "hot". So a lot of your hotties, especially at that age, don´t have a strong theater background, or they have the luck of having great representations because of the way they look. Casey says. They don´t necessarily have the goods to match how hot they look. Padalecki knew how to talk and had the rugged good looks to please the suits at The WB.

We knew he was leaving the next day so we called over to Amy´s office. Rudofsky remembers. They had already had two Deans. They had one that had to be recast, they put a second one in the pilot presentation and they wanted him recast, so this was our third Dean.

Amy came over to their trailer, met with Padalecki for a few minutes and stepped outside. She looked at us and was like, WWell that´s not fair. You can´t just cast someone on the first try." Though they were told to keep an eye out for a better Dean, Amy was convinced they found their guy.

Somebody like Jared Padalecki didn´t have a tone of training Casey says. However he has a thing. Sometimes people are just special and they drop down from heaven and he´s one of them.

I love it - especially the last part.

I may have never watched the show, I know what it is about. I saw a video or two about Dean and Rory a few months ago. They are such a cute couple.

Val you should definitely try to watch it. At least the first couple seasons where Dean had a bigger role!

Really? I find them all the time really cheap now. They were expensive when I first bought them.
