Exactly! It was a bit hard to tell what the writers were trying to do there.

yeah, they didn't need to be bffs, but some continuing development would be nice. if you, for some reason, only watched them in s2&3 you'd never know they had a history of being anything other than casual friends who hung out in group situations sometimes. female relationships were really the show's weak point tbh. even tyra/julie only had scenes after s1 where they talked about their boys.

i think they were setting up a lyla/tyra friendship but that got dropped in season 2.

female relationships were definitely the weak point of the series besides julie/tami.

yeah, obviously the boys are all connected by the football team so the show is essentially bromantic. but s1 did a better job of being a true ensemble, having almost everyone interact and exploring all the dynamics. after s1 each of the originals usually interacted with the same people, and the focus was only on those relationships. basically all the tyra relationships i would have been interested in were dropped after s1.

yeah, i liked what little we got in s3 where they were friendly instead of enemies, but it would have been nice if they actually addressed tyra/lyla with all the riggins/collette group gatherings. there was all that history with tyra/tim/lyla which you'd never guess when they were just incidental to billy/mindy.

there was that one scene at the mccoys when tyra went up to lyla. tyra said something about how tim was probably out with a six pack and rally girls. she realized she shouldn't have said it then apologized. whatever animosity that was between them in season one had dissipated. they incidentally did spend quite a lot of time together but the relationship was never addressed. lyla would hang with tim while tyra was hanging with her sister or mom or landry. they were in the same circle but never hung together. i guess in some ways it makes sense. it was probably always like that. when tyra dated tim and lyla dated jason. they probably all hung around each other a lot, because jason/tim were best friends. tyra/lyla were never essentially close.
