Hi guys,

As you may well remember, FF has been doing post count checks on boards every four or five months. However, this system is about to change, and soon there will be new software installed that will tell you a board's post counts at any given time. Any board that has less than 100 posts per week four times in a given three month period will be closed, and at the moment that includes us. We haven't been able to hit the 100 posts/week mark for the past three weeks, so the future of this board is looking pretty grim.

I like the fanfic board. I've had more intelligent and stimulating conversations on this board than any other I've frequented, on and off Fan Forum. I think it'll be a real shame if we were closed. But as everyone can see, we are no longer really attracting any fandom-based fanfic threads because they inevitably all get their own FF boards at some stage. It is unfortunate that the old rule of 'no fanfic threads except on the fanfic board' has been done away with; but that's that and I guess we'll just have to make a niche for ourselves a different way. The discussion(bitching! ) threads continue to do well here, as well as a few other select fandom-based threads; but that doesn't look like enough at this point.

The post counts don't begin until March, so we have a bit of time to prepare ourselves; but it's also going to be an ongoing effort, which may prove difficult in the long run. If you, like me, would like to see the fanfic board remain here at FF, please don't hesitate to pitch in with your two cents on any of the discussion threads, and feel free to open other threads that you think will be of interest to fanfic writers.

Hmm. Well, we'll need new threads then. Ones that can inspire some discussion.

ETA: I made two new threads. Hopefully it will garner a few posts for the board. Favorite Fic That You Have Written and Legalize Fanfiction. (If these are duplicates of anything or you don't like them, feel free to close them.) I'm going to add a Save The FanFic Board link in my sig, too.

Just a note that we have changed the supplementary rules on direct posting so that now you can now post fics of any length on the fanfic board, on the appropriate fandom/shipper thread. We are currently undergoing a trial period to see how that will work with our resources and hopefully we can maintain it in the long run. Feel free to give it a try! (But make sure they are of a suitable content, and only post your own fics please.)

I'll try to post more often. At the moment I'm undergoing a rather grueling semester (two of my classes have almost three hours labs on top of the lecture) and I haven't been reading as much fanfiction as I'd like.
