This is such an interesting thread!

A few months ago my Ethics & Legislation professor was talking about how incest was criminalized because the goverment felt that if people married into their own family they wouldn't generate as much profit to the system as someone starting a new family. From that point on the taboo began growing around it and led to the present skepticism.

I'm personally totally pro-incest, if both people are into it I don't see the problem. Love shouldn't have boundaries.

I am not against incest because if two people love each other, it really shouldn't matter who they are

It so would

Yes, I admit, I really am the person who looked at the title, and was had to see what you all where talking about, lol :). but honestly, I'm really not that against it myself, i mean I would worry for any kids that would result from the union, but like you said, love is love.

It just weirds me out. Mostly because I can't understand how someone could fall in love with someone they're related to. I mean you love your family, but love? I don't get that. There's plenty of fics around though so obviously some people do.

To me, incest is just wrong. I have two older brothers, and it just creeps me the hell out to even think about it.

*shudder*

Ok I seriously hope you guys mean incest in terms of distant relatives (between distant cousins, e.g.) and not within immediate family (e.g. siblings)
It's not even question of ethics, religion or pushing social boundaries. Inbreeding is simply genetically dangerous and apparently according to some researches, humans are not biologically prepared for this.

There's a huge difference between "fun" incest pairings you see in the fanfics (although to be honest, I can't read such fics), just because fans consider 2 actors hot and reality of incestuous relationships. Not to mention its' correlation with sexual child abuse. I'm sorry but I honestly don't understand how anyone can be "pro incest". I'm not trying to provoke you guys or anything, but please explain, because I admit being surprised to say the least.

And I'm the first one to use the "love is love" slogan, but there are different kinds of love and immediate family isn't supposed to share a romantic one.

I mean whatever it is, even if it's immediate family :look: I'm not talking about inbreeding, I'm talking about being with who you wanna be with. Not making babies

This is the biggest misconception, relating incest with sexual child abuse. If someone's a child abuser, it doesn't mean he's into incest, and vice versa. If a brother and sister fall in love and want to be together, there's nothing wrong with that IMO. If a father and daughter fall in love, I don't see a problem with that either. I'm talking about BOTH people WANTING it and being in complete agreement. A father molesting a daughter is a complete different situation, it's like anyone molesting anyone, I don't see how child abuse has to be directly associated with incest.

I respectfully disagree  You can't help who you love. I don't think love should be categorized in "supposed to be romantic" and "not supposed to be romantic". It's not an exact science, it's about feelings.

ITA, Tarlie

I remember this case on House where a couple was sick, they're madly in love with each other but they ended up finding out they were siblings. After that, the whole thing changed and the girl couldn't even look at the guy's face. I mean, SERIOUSLY? It's not like you were raised together or anything, it's just... I'm sorry, but to me, the idea that two people are not allowed to love each other in a different way just because they're siblings is disturbing. Love is such a beautiful feeling, it shouldn't have to "fit" what people expect it to. There's no you should or shouldn't when it comes to loving someone, really. As long as the people involved respect and share their feelings for each other, I'm fine.

All we need is love, man
