Close siblings Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal are dealing with a family crisis. In Touch can exclusively reveal that their mom, screenwriter Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal, and dad, director Stephen Gyllenhaal, have separated. “Nobody saw this coming,” says one insider, and another tells In Touch, “The family is completely distraught, but they are all uniting during this sad time.” The situation has apparently made Jake appreciate girlfriend Reese Witherspoon that much more. “He and Reese have been talking about marriage a lot lately,” the insider says. “Stephen has moved out,” says an insider about the breakup of the tight-knit clan.

Last night, while Peter Sarsgaard continued to act his socks off in Chekov's The Seagull on Broadway, Maggie Gyllenhaal hosted the Gen Art and SOYJOY Fashionably Natural fashion show in LA. And, for the occasion, Maggie revelled in her new short and flicky hairdo.

But it's back to New York and Broadway for Maggie because on Monday she has joined a 'staged reading of Bertolt Brecht's The Good Person of Sezuan, adapted by Tony Kushner and directed by Tony Speciale, as part of Classic Stage Company's, popular First Look Festival - a program of one-night only staged readings, performed by notable actors... Joining Gyllenhaal in the reading are Jeremy Strong, Jayne Houdyshell, Jason Butler Harner, Ben Shenkman, Ryder Smith, Mary Shultz, Roberta Maxwell and Judith Roberts.' Roberta Maxwell, of course, was Jack's mother in Brokeback Mountain.

you prefer maggie with longer hair, lou? actually, i think the cut and styling could've been better. also, chin length or shoulder length hair suits her best.
