were there a lot of farts in the movie or is that something that the media hyped up?

I can see how it's a great role for Dan because of the physicality. Sometimes it's harder work to not be mobile, to be restrained.
I bet the scene where Hank has to say goodbye to Manny is sad.

I'd say it was hyped up. Yes throughout the film Manny farts but its very subtle as it goes along. The corpse is expelling gas and its not really that gross. You get use to it. If anyone has a dad that farts throughout the day (like mine!) you don't really think about it.

Of course people who aren't use to hearing farts publicly, will react stronger. Either immaturely or prudishly.

I used to have a friend who'd always say perfect people don't fart. It was ridiculous. She'd hate this movie.

That is ridiculous. Farting is normal and everyone does it.
