10x07: "Girls, Girls, Girls" Episode Discussion Thread

"Girls, Girls, Girls"
November 25, 9/8c, CW

ROWENA REAPPEARS — Sam (Jared Padaleck) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) stumble upon a demon who is running from Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard). Before they have a chance to shut him down, Rowena (guest star Ruth Connell) steps in and takes things into her own hands. Realizing Rowena is trying to recruit and train followers in the art of witchcraft, Sam and Dean come up with a plan to catch her before she can do much damage. Meanwhile, Hannah (guest star Erica Carroll) runs into a blast from her vessel’s past, which complicates things for her and Castiel (Misha Collins).

The episode is written by Robert Berens and directed by Robert Singer.

That was hardcore! Gotta love these openings! Sam and Dean! Dean on a dating app! Didn’t miss you Castiel! Over this whole Castiel/Hannah thing…ugh…enough already! His soul? No! Sam is there too! Demon Trap! Her husband? What? Witch? Interesting! Who else but Crowley? I wouldn’t trust her one bit! Cole! Hannah/Caroline and Castiel are boring me so badly! Sam and Dean! Finally! Cole having the gun on Dean! Dean wasn’t a demon when he killed Cole’s father? Epic fight! That was awesome Dean! Jensen’s amazing acting in the scene with him talking to Cole! Dean wants to be saved! His mother? Really? Pretty good episode…the Castiel/Hannah stuff was boring but the Sam/Dean stuff was awesome!

I have mixed feelings about this episode. Started good, went bad, then intriguing, then normal, then frustrating, then that shocker ending with Crowley.

Beginning with Dean on Tinder. Yeah okay. Despite its low credibility, Sam's teasing (including reading the messages) was worth that ridiculous premise. But then Dean got with a soul prostitute? And there's a demonic pimp? Oh geez... and then we have an Irish/Scottish feminist witch? Forgive me if I'm glossing over a lot but that's how it hit me. Boo for pimps but yay for witch "Girl Power" I guess...

With Dean and Sam handling a weird A-plot, I figured the B-plot would be more streamlined. And it was. Streamlined straight into my heart and broke it. Does that not make sense? Well neither does bringing in a husband for the sole purpose of writing off a perfectly good reoccurring female character. The writers even had the nerve to give me sassy, naked Hannah plus a kiss between her and Castiel before taking her away. Damn writers. Damn human feelings.

But oh gee, don't worry, we may have the red-headed witch as our female reoccurring character. Holy Bela 2.0, Batman. Please no. I'd take Hannah over the witch any day. And not just because the witch is a pain to Sam and Dean. That whole scene with her and the hookers in the restaurant reminded me of 'Pretty Woman' and I never even watched 'Pretty Woman'. I don't know if that explains my impression about her but there ya go.

I didn't remember the guy who wanted to fight Dean and I watched the actual episode(s) he was in. The "previouslies" didn't explain his whole vengeance thing very well. So between him, the witch, Hannah/Caroline's husband, and Crowley's dislike of the world's oldest profession, I felt there were way too many characters and plot points going on.

I appreciated that they mentioned Jimmy Novak even though I thought the guy's soul was long dead after everything that body has been through. And I would've appreciated Dean saying his sorrys and "people who love me changed me" spiel if he weren't so damn angsty and pitiful at the end. So now Dean wants to die? It's like him and Sam are playing hot potato with suicidal world-weariness. Also, what was the point of this vengeance guy? He pissed me off when he hurt Sam in the series premier and now he just leaves after a barely coherent, depressing speech? Not since Sam's vet girlfriend has there been a more pointless character. The only thing I liked out of that little side-track was how that dude's dad that Dean killed was a liver eating mutant. The Tooms lineage continues! (X-Files, wut wut! )

Overall, the theme of this episode seems to be going home and a whole lot of guilt. I'll be honest, if Castiel does return his vessel home, I would not be too sad. The most interesting, surprising (and dare I say best?) part was the end, after that sweet dolly zoom on Crowley where that witch is revealed to be his mother. Nice. So... is she British? Maybe I should google her when I care more. Honestly, I'm more excited about my Thanksgiving menu than I was for this episode. And the next episode, as a matter of fact.

Are they seriously bringing back the chubby cop from the fat-sucking monster episode along with Sheriff Mills next week? Doesn't Mills have a former vampire foster kid to look after? If this is how they're trying to placate me after writing out Hannah, the writers better think again. Geez, I think I'll take back my previous "Girl Power" statement.

Thanks Chris! The episode was alright. I actually preferred 10x6 but 10x7 had some good scenes like Sam teasing Dean about being on the dating site! It was nice to see that light hearted moment!

I also liked the Dean Cole Sam alley scene too! Good fight scene!

I have feeling we will see the return of Jimmy Novak this season.

Interesting to see how the Rowena & Crowley storyline will play out! Mom & son at odds should be interesting too see.

I can't watch the episode while I'm in Brittany (I only have my cellphone here)... but from what I read, I don't want to
Castiel was, or should I say used to be, a great character, and with Sam and Bobby he was my favorite. I should be looking forward to see him again, but I don't. I want to remember him as he was before season 10. Powerful, adorable, stubborn, funny and lost, but always meaningful or at least interesting.
I'm talking about a freaking angel, a "wave of celestial intent" that became obsessed (in love ?) with Dean.
I'm talking about a magical creature who destroyed Heaven, sacrificed his soul and life in horible pain, give up an army and broke one of the most powerful items in universe... for Dean.
He should be with Winchesters, hunting and doing cool stuff and bleeding for his precious human ! He told himself that the Heaven problem seems to be settled, so why is he running across the country with some random chick to hunt down angels like himself ? Specially after the Daniel and Adina accident, haven't he learned the lesson about creatures like him wanting to be left alone and explore life on Earth ? Wouldn't he do the same ?
Remember how happy he was to see Winchesters at the end of season 9 that he was the one to hug them with a joyful smile ? How desperate and hurt he was when Dean was killed by Metatron ? How hopeful and driven he was to heal demon Dean ?
ALL THIS JUST TO BARELY TELL DEAN TO TAKE A VACATION AND DRIVE AWAY WITH SOME RANDOM CHICK ? THE SAME CHICK WHO WANTED HIM TO STAB AN INNOCENT DEAN ???
Where is any logic in this ? At least the character had a logical evolution until season 10, but no one wiped his memory this time, no one tricked him into a dreadful deal out of need...
He sees the man he sacrificed himself and the entire universe for, who he believed dead and saw as a demon, and all he has as reaction is THIS ??? Seriously ???

So yes, I love Supernatural and I love Castiel, but I will not continue watching the show. For me it ended with season 9.

Someone should start one for Rowena too.

Crowley is going to get his butt beat big time.

I love season 10 Hannah, but there's a big gap in her development. We have no idea how she became this caring woman from the one you mentioned so quickly. It does not make sense.

I want Crowley's mom to spank her son for being a naughty little boy.

It wasn't a bad episode... felt more like a filler episode really. The hi-lite was definitely Sam teasing Dean about being on a dating site. The way he says Dean's user name had me laughing so hard. Then the way he started reading the message from the woman
The whole Cas/Hannah part was insightful. It's so easy to think that Jimmy is dead, but really he's still tucked away. I liked Hannah & didn't mind too much if she hooked up with Cas (ducking thrown fruit) but it brought up a whole new problem with the vessels the angels are possessing. The human soul is still in there Looking forward to how Cas will handle seeing Jimmy's daughter in an upcoming episode. I have a feeling that the writers are using this season to do what they did to Sam & Dean in S8 & 9... break him down to build him up This season Cas seems a bit ... I don't even know what word to use. Human Cas was a bit more interesting last season Hope they bring back the angel we all love soon

The whole Cole thing was a bit anti-climatic I don't know why, but I guess I was hoping for a little more or more run ins. So his dad was some creature that ate human livers, but Cole isn't even a little bit of one? Still some unanswered questions *sigh* I guess he doesn't have to look over his shoulder all the time for Cole...not that he was anyway

Rowena & Crowley... Momma & Son together again... Hmmmm, interesting bad guy stuff?

Loved the bro moments ... so like the early seasons. That's what I'm loving about this season the best
