Here doctors are scared to prescribe antibiotics b/c it's tracked. Painkillers I don't know. I had once to specifically sign for cough medication and it was tracked b/c it was something addictive. I didn't dare take it and took it back to the pharmacy unopened years later. *blush* I was so scared to get addicted with all the warning etc. around getting it.
Since then, I always say to the doctor if I don't intend to take something.

Huh, that cough syrup must have had codeine in it. Codeine has been banned from cough syrup here since about 1965. There used to be a prescription painkiller called Tylenol 3, which was regular Tylenol combined with a little bit of codeine, but I think they quit making it about 20 years ago. I had some after I had surgery back in the 1980s. It didn't really kill the pain, but it got me such that I didn't care.
