A new review that liked it better than I know some of us did:

Quote:
The first feature film from Andrew Jarecki, best known for his Oscar-nominated documentary Capturing the Friedmans, is a good example of the way a film can quietly shine when all the people involved in its production play to their strengths.

Capturing the Friedmans was a poignant examination of child abuse and family secrets - and this time Jarecki takes the most notorious missing person's case in New York history and lets Ryan Gosling explore that dark, disturbed vein that runs underneath most of his performances to full effect. All Good Things also gives Kirsten Dunst an opportunity to excel in the role of a terrified and confused wife watching her husband become something she never knew he could.

...

Gosling creates a complex portrayal of David as more than just a man who tries to avoid becoming his father and then does - his transformation following his entry into the fold is something he does seemingly easily on the surface - but there's an inner rage and self- loathing that grows when he's alone, with alarming results.

He's ably supported by Dunst, who plays the role of a woman who realises that the gap between the man she loves and the man she ends up with is growing beyond her comprehension, and there's a great cameo by the always excellent Philip Baker Hall as Malvern Bump, a strange man whom David befriends while hiding from the police following Katie's disappearance.

While you may be as unable to understand David as his wife was by the end of the film, and not necessarily buy the answer to the puzzle that Jarecki puts forward, that's all well within the framework of this moody, well-acted, underrated film which is not a mystery thriller. It is so much a dark meditation on the ways in which we never really quite get to know anybody and what they're capable of.

Film Review: All Good Things - Times LIVE
And just because:

International reviews tended to be more favorable than US ones were.

^ This could have been all of us on this board back when AGT was his only project on tap and it looked like it was never going to come out.

Thank Gosling that things have changed.

This is ruining Ryan's recent critical streak.

I know. If we ignore that one movie it would look way better.
