Bleecker Street Picks Up 'Disobedience' Starring Rachel McAdams and Rachel Weisz | Hollywood Reporter

Bleecker Street seems to have picked up the distribution rights of the movie in the US.

This is great news. I hope they release it soon - we are right around the award season.

Bleecker Street has acquired US rights to Sebastian Lelio’s Disobedience, the drama starring Rachel Weisz, Rachel McAdams and Alessandro Nivola that premiered in Toronto.

Lelio’s English-language debut centres on a Jewish community in north London as a New York-based photographer returns for her father’s funeral and rekindles a friendship with another woman.

Lelio wrote the screenplay with Rebecca Lenkiewicz. Frida Torresblanco produced for Braven Films, Ed Guiney for Element Pictures, and Rachel Weisz for LC6 Productions. Film4 developed the film and co-financed with the film’s internationals sales agent FilmNation.

“Sebastian has captured, with real authenticity, the universality of love and faith, and the strength and sacrifice it takes to fight for what you believe in,” Bleecker Street CEO Andrew Karpen said. “We’re excited to bring Rachel Weisz’s, Rachel McAdams’ and Alessandro Nivola’s powerful and honest performances to audiences across the country next year.”

Lelio said, “Bleecker Street has proven in just a few years the power independent filmmaking can have across a wide range of audiences, and I am thrilled Disobedience has found a home there with likeminded creatives.”

Executive producers are Rose Garnett and Daniel Battsek for Film4, Ben Browning and Glen Basner for FilmNation, Andrew Lowe for Element Pictures, and Eric Laufer and Giovanna Randall.

Kent Sanderson and Avy Eschenasy on behalf of Bleecker Street brokered the deal with WME Global and FilmNation.

It's still possible they are aiming for an Oscar run next year since this year is so crowded.

Bleecker Street also acquired Saoirse Ronan's "On Chesil Beach" which also premiered at TIFF. They will also release that movie in 2018.
